And so, for the first time I post some of my work for public criticism...

Just under a year ago I got back into 40K after a long hiatus, and picked up the beginnings of an Ork army from Gumtree. As a point of honour, every model in the army (which currently stands at 4000 points) is salvaged/secondhand, or in the case of this guy, scratch built (more or less). My aim with this army was to relatively fast paint up a tabletop standard army, with a reasonable, consistent colour scheme, that could survive transporting (ie, not too many spiky fragile bits...). I don't aim to win any golden demons, but I enjoy painting, and want to turn out a solid, consistent army.

I'm hoping to photograph the rest of the ~3,000 points I've painted in the last ten months on my next break, but this guy I already have photos of, and as a new member of DakkaDakka, I might as well jump in the deep end.

NB, with this guy, I know that a few people will hate the KFF conversion, and say it doesn't look big enough. I actually agree, but see my previous transportability comment...

Hopefully these images actually work now.

Can you elaborate? How would you 'dirty' it? Maybe cram more stuff onto it? More tools or something?

It's a very nice and neat paint job. The colors are vibrant and the lines are clean and not messy.

I think what he means by 'too clean' is that there ian't much to make him seem like he's constantly been fighting. He actually looks as if he's just taken a bath and brushed his teeth.

You might want to take some really thinned down yellow or ocher and paint the base of his teeth so they look stained and yellowish. You can also take a brown or dark orange wash and add some rust or dirt to the metal parts (don't go too overboard with this, you only want the impression of lousy maintenance.) You can also get some clear red ink or paint and add some blood effects to the claw.

Obviously these are just ideas not requirements. If you like the clean look on your models, then more power to you.

Great job on the mini!

It's very unique! I'd almost forgotten about the runtherd model, good work salvaging that.
