Right, my friend and I had a big ass argument over my Pre-Heresy Alpha Legion army. He said that I would have to make Alpharius and Omegon a lot taller than the other marines, but then I said that if Alpharius and Omegon were taller than the rest everyone would notice who the Primarch(s) are. He then said that the first batch of Alpha Legion were taller than the rest but then that would defeat the purpose of the Alpha Legion being secretive about their Primarchs. In the book 'Legion' by Dan Abnett John Grammaticus says that Alpharius and Omegon are like 3cm taller than the rest so would i need to make them bigger??

They are coming! I feel them scratching inside my mind, scratching, screaming, running, so many...so, so many voices. They're coming for us - flesh, body and soul!

For the sake of 3cm? No keep them the same size as normal marines. That's the impression I got from the book.

Alpharius and Omegon were taller than other Astartes, but not overly so. IIRC, one of the human character in Legion commented on Omegon looking 'slightly different' to the other Astartes before it was known they were both the primarch - slightly taller and bulkier. But not to the point of some of the other primarch descriptions. They also didn't deck themselves out with ostentatious equipment, they just used regular bolter and gladius like the rest of the Alphe Legion and wore power armour of standard manufacture, though obviously custom made for their unique physique (heh). Using regular marine models for them seems perfectly reasonable.

Just finished reading Legion yesterday. They're described as being "substantially larger" than other astartes.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
The 3cm comment was comparing regular astartes to each other - not Alpharius/Omegon to regular astartes.
"They all look alike to you, don't they Peto?"
"Every one of them."
"You look the same to Peto, but I can see. Him, he's three maybe three and a half centimeters taller than the man beside him. He has heavier cheek bones. He has a thicker neck and a propensity to grow hair. Those two are alike, except around the eyes, where it is telling."
"Gene stock traits."
No, cosmetic efforts to resemble one another. Except you - You really are identical."

@Scott, I'd be interested to know where you got that from. The information I read is that they are they same size. If you read The Primachs too you get the same information.

The primarchs are all described as being much taller than regular astartes so he's got a point. As to that giving away their identity - bear in mind that most people have never seen an astartes and far fewer have ever seen a primarch. Unless you've met a couple of primarchs (you'd have to have met several to know that they're all massive) how would you know that the astartes in front of you identifying himself as Alpharius was not a primarch?

There are multiple references to it in Legion. (just a few I found at a skim) I'd be interested in any quotes that say they're the same size as normal astartes (i.e smaller than other primarchs)
P140 - "The being he was observing (Alpharius) was substantially larger than Herzog or Perch, the bona fide Alphas [he] had encountered in Mon Lo"
P158 - "Alpharius was considerably taller than both his captains"
P159 - "[Omegon] was at least as big as the Primarch himself"
Also, from Index Astartes III
"Over a foot taller than even the Luna Wolves, he had piercing green eyes and looked almost a match for Horus himself."
"The two primarchs (Alpharius and Guilliman) stood before each other. They were equal in stature."
I've just skimmed The Primarchs (haven't read it yet) - there's references to how Omegon doesn't get any special treatment but nothing I noticed about his height.

A friend i used to game with had a similar argument with another of my friends, his Alpha legion primarchs were the same size.
The next time we met, he turned up with two new primarchs, a couple of marines with Ogryn heads !!

Compared to other primarchs The Alpharius twins are shorter, more akin to a normal marines. Their stature is small enough for them to be pass unnoticed among normal marines to all but a keen observer. That is part of what makes them special, that and their constant use of imitators.
You could actually wonder if any of the two twins have any set foot in a warzone at all. ^^
So using a normal marine without special markings to represent them is perfectly ok from the fluff's point of view.

The fluff would suggest that they're about a head taller than normal marines.
That would be a fairly easy conversion, add a couple of mm to the soles of the feet, a couple of mm to the waist and bingo.

the problem with primarchs and emps is that being partly warp born they didnt realy have such a thing like a fixed size. Sometimes when they wanted they were normal sized , but If not then they get a lot bigger. Magnus who was touched by warp the most ., aside for his father of course, could go titan size .

Have you got any references to them actually changing size?
Pretty inconvenient ability for someone that wears armour a lot... Automatically Appended Next Post: AL-PiXeL01 wrote:You could actually wonder if any of the two twins have any set foot in a warzone at all. ^^
Now there's a thought.
There's lots of description of them being ~1 foot taller than regular marines until the dual with Guilliman where suddenly Alpharius is normal primarch size. Is that the only time they've actually stepped up and ALL of the other occasions were doubles (just astartes that were taller than average)?
