It seemed to make sense taking the
PG on the
LF squad leader as the bolt pistol is useless anyway (only 12" Range) and if you choose not to split fire then at least you still have a 24" range on the squad leader. For 15 points it seemed like a good idea.
Not really. You really don't want your long fangs within 24" of the enemy anyway and 15 points for a plasmagun that you might get to shoot once is not worth it. Furthermore, as soon as the
LF's start taking casualties you're going to want to lose the
LF seargent first (because he doesn't have a heavy weapon.) Also, a plasmagun only costs 10 points for a Grey Hunter squad but 15 for the long fang pack leader. Keep the plasmagun with the grey hunters.
Why does nobody seem to use Bloodclaws even though when attacking you get 3 attacks per head?
There are several reasons. First of all, Blood Claws and Grey Hunters cost the same. Second of all, Blood Claws only have a
BP +
CCW while Grey Hunters have a
BP,
CCW and a Bolter. Third, Blood Claws can't shoot their pistols if they're within 6" of the enemy unless they have a leader attached. Fourth, Blood Claws don't have access to awesome stuff like a Wolf Standard and Mark of the Wulfen. Fifth and most importantly,
BC's have weapon skill 3 and ballistic skill 3, while
GH's have
WS 4 and
BS 4.
There are only two advantages that
BC's have over
GH's. The first is that you can take a 15 man squad instead of only 10. But this is also a disadvantage because the only vehicle that can fit that many guys in it is a Land Raider Crusader. The second advantage is the berserk charge. But in 6th edition, overwatch makes it foolish to charge a full strength squad.
I have run Blood Claws in the past but always like this ...
But the obvious problem here is that this squad costs 630 points!
