Hi All,

I'm new to the gaming side and starting an Blood Ravens army which I want to play friendly local battles with.

Let me know if it is missing anything or if anything is better? I've not bought any models yet so it can all be changed!

HQ:
Librarian w/ Storm Bolter, Jump Pack (Null Zone & Smite) - 128

Elites:
Terminater Squad w/ Cyclone Missile Launcher - 230

Troops:
10 Man Tac squad, Sergeant w/ Powerfist combi-melta, Meltagun & Missile Launcher - 205
Rhino w/ Storm Bolter - 45

5 Man Tac Squad, Sergeant w/ combi-melta, power weapon - 105
Razorback w/ Twin Linked Heavy Bolter - 40

Fast Attack:
5 Man Assault Squad, Sergeant w/ storm shield power weapon, Flamer -140

Heavy Support:

Predator w/ Autocannon & Heavy Bolter Sponsons - 85

Total: 993

Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

Ziggy

It's a pretty good list for 1k. My personal taste would be to drop the terminators in favor of 1 more tac squad on foot and another assault squad. But your list is pretty solid.

Thanks for the response, so If I was expanding from a 1k then that would be better to add a termie squad?

Good question. Yes it would be IMO. You have a solid core here that would be a great base for a larger list. I'd say start adding in those terminator squads in the 1500 range. Then maybe 2 of them in a 1750. Then add more heavies and another HQ in a 1999 list.

That layout is suggested based on your current theme and possible play style.

Overall, looks good.

I prefer having a chaplain leading jump squads, but the librarian will work. Don't bother with the stormbolter. You want the bolt pistol for the extra attack, and you can smite if you want to kill stuff at range.

CMLs are good for terminators, I like assault cannons YMMV. If you have 5 spare points, a chainfist is a nice addition to the squad.

I would not bother with the powerfist on the tac sarge. You are not using any characters that take away combat tactics, so if you get stuck in a bad CC, just fail, fall back, and shoot. The points can be better spent elsewhere. I'm not sure it's worth getting an extra SB for the rhino either. MM might be a better pick, but MLs work.

Not a big fan of 5 man tac squads. Go 10, or go scouts. 100 points will get you 5 sniper scouts w/ camo cloaks and a HB or ML.

I like assault marines. Be careful with them. They are a backfield harassment unit, but can cause quite the bit of havoc. Melta bombs would be a good addition to the squad.

I like auto/las preds over auto/HB "dakka" preds. But for 85 points they put out a solid wall of anti-infantry firepower.

You have a little something from every slot of the force orc chart, which I like. You use a little more wargear then I think is necessary. But I like your list, and think it would play quite well. Mostly just little changes to account for taste.

A little new player advice (as you mentioned you havn't bought anything) Never buy a rhino kit, razorbacks are just a few bucks more and as long as you don't glue the hatch on you can use it as both. And some magnets are well worth the investment, particularly for the predator.

You haven't been very point efficient. In some ways your list works together and is flexible which is what you want with marines at low points.

The shoot termies I really like at low points. Any higher and there are better things or just use deathwing as allies.

The librarian is a nice guy to run with assault squads, he really does boost their killing ability. The major advantage is that they get to keep combat tactics. I think I would want force dome given their role.
Storm bolter is silly.

I like your rhino squad set up. Though the powerfist is not needed as described above, maybe take meltabombs. The rhino storm bolter is not really worth it. Also at low points you'll find plasma is more important than melta.

5 man tactical squads are not the most efficient way of fielding them, but you have restricted point cost. I would not give the combimelta or powerweapon. In general they should try to just stay alive and score and not get too involved, or at least it is more likely that this will happen. Meltabombs may be nice.

Razorbacks love to have a better turret.

Assault squads are just too expensive, especially the way you have set them up.

Finally the pred I would go for las sponsons, though it depends on what you think you will see at low points.

You can not really bring a balanced with marines so you have done reasonably well. It needs to be tighter just as marines have a bit of a disadvantage.
I would always think about a 1500 point list to end up with then just remove 500 points. Otherwise you get advance like keeping shooty termies which later will most likely gather dust.
