So, I was thinking of throwing some swords into my list, and I was going to do that by removing one dozer blade and replacing the Combi-Meltas for power swords. Does this sound like a good idea?

My List:

Power weapons would be usefull now since "hidden fist" are countered by challenges. I say if you have the spare points, why not. Exspecially if you have them on the front line on objectives being assaulted. I dont have anything on mine yet (mostly because my Srg's have Power fist and I cant remove them -_-). What I am doing now is keeping him bare bones with a bolter and make use of all the fire they can dish out. If i do have the points at the end of my list, ill consider power weapons. A power weapon makes the target a threat to assault but your enemy knows they have to because they are on an objective. Dozer blades are usefull if there are alot of terrain but most of the time you can do with out them.

Added note after checking your list, yes you may want to replace your combi-meltas with the power sword because you have so much melta. Both in your face (Sterngaurd) and range (multi-meltas).

Never can bring enough melta in a Vulkan list! XD I'll do it, just because I do need some melee capability, as my hammernators won't come in till 1500pts.

People can kinda lame you with the challenges BUT, having that Power Fist can help you greatly in one way. If someone charges you with a single enemy with high toughness and 2+, that lone guy might be able to kill your whole squad. Some good examples of this are Necron Destroyer Lords, Chaos Terminator Lord with Mark of Nurgle or Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf. That fist may give you a fighting chance against such enemies, rather that almost guaranteed lose that squad to a lone enemy hero.

If I removed both Combi meltas from the tact squads, I could purchase a fist and a sword. Does that sound good?

Who is your most common opponent?

If its IG, then melee weapons are totally unnecessary and melta is goooooood.

If its other MEQ armies, then I'd say a fist and one melta, if you can fit it.

My entire FLGS is a mix, but there are a lot of band-wagoners, so I'd expect BA, GK, Necrons, and either vanilla SM, or Imperial Guard.

If you attach power weapons to your squadron, the points are going to add up quite signifcantly, if attaching them, I would only attach them to a few members in the squad (EG the Sergeant) However, for the Sergeant, I would recommend attaching a power fist and power sword!

I can attach only one fist and one sword. I'd rather attach one per tact squad.
