I recently finished a wiki widget for allowing Dakka images to be embedded in wiki pages, since the usual iframes provided don't work on user-input websites.

Not all wikis have Widgets installed though. If you are on a 40k wiki, that just means you should annoy the sysadmin until they install the extension and add the widget.

Nice. Please make sure all generated URLs call images from images.dakkadakka.com for future proofing, as the main URL for dakkadakka will not always serve them up.

I've updated the widget at Sturmkrieg (haven't changed it at the distribution wiki yet) to allow for setting the size of the image.

I've also created at template that allows images from Dakka to be thumbnailed, like images that are uploaded directly to wikis. Normal thumbnailing of off wiki images isn't possible since it requires information in the database that isn't created for offsite images.

I set it to use that URL, and created instructions to copy from the directory in that domain. The domain and directory are included within the widget so that it can only be used for Dakka images. Hotlinking without a widget is disabled by default in MediaWiki because it can allow spammers to harvest information about who visits pages. I also set the link when clicking on the image to go to the gallery homepage, since I thought it would be too complicated to ask people to add in two separate URLs.
