Hello, I am just barely getting into the BA army play to know what all works for the best and what not. I am still relatively new to the 40k war so my experience on the field is severely lacking. I am just wondering if anyone has any advice on a Sternguard Veteran squad being used in my lot. I have read elsewhere that Tactical squads and Sternguards were said to be "waste of points" for a BA army. I am just at a cross roads of sorts, and don't know if I should pick up this squad of Sternguards for a pretty decently low price. Future thanks for any words of advice!!!

Sternguard are always great...who said they weren't worth it in a BA army? Drop pod wherever you want in relative safely and Melta/Plasma/Special Ammo whatever you like until it's dead.

Unnessesarily extravegant word of the week award goes to jcress410 for this:

They are a suicide unit, and quite good at it. They will kill whatever you intend them to kill. I think they would go fine with a BA army but many people aren't up for the suicide tactic, and as such they can get deemed as a waste of points.

This is how you should use Sternguard. I wouldn't say they're a waste of points at all, but they don't really fit into a BA philosophy is all. They're more of a Vanilla Marine staple.

They are awesome. They could do with having a priest with them makes them better than vanilla, not to undervalue combat tactics.

Then how they travel is tricky. Rhinos are expensive, razorbacks are expensive and have no slots, raider+raven are the same.

Drop pods do make sense. If you can land 10 them next to some honour guard then you are doing very well.

The main issue is that they die as easily as regular marines.
