Thanks for the pics!

Quite an interesting sprue layout there, with each component getting its own closed-off sprue section, no matter how small it is.

Damn, those will be really awkward for people to break up and sell on eBay. Maybe that's the point.

No, the point is very straightforwardly that to put so many pieces on that have as complex a geometry requires a lot of gating and sprues to allow the molten plastic to flow consistently.

Thanks for the pics! Shame to see headswapping/armswapping of the cultists will be quite hard / nigh impossible in some cases.

My pleasure.

Yeah, sprues look a bit awkward, especially that there is no easy way to separate Angels and Chaos.

It's actually fairly easy. They each have one dedicated sprue. Then there are two identical shared sprues; these have all the cultist parts together of to one side and a few Chosen parts also grouped together in a spot; a few cuts will separate the factions. So splitting a box set to trade factions is really easy.

Now, separating individual units, that's another matter.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

just opened my own DV set here; IMO the packing is just silly.
I "get" wanting to make a starter set look "impressive", and big might fit that picture but this could all have fit in a battleforce box if they'd just not included the whippy sticks.
...the cost savings of which in shipping alone, let alone rack space, could have more than paid for including a tape measure.

still a cool set, just think there's some odd priorities going on here.
the sprue size being their battleforce/landraider box size could be explained by that simply being a convenient size on their machinery, but that wouldn't explain AoBR and, if I'm not mistaken, IoB which have larger sprues and were, to my knowledge, tooled and cast in-house as well.
...so there might be a reboxing in this sets future - or at least they're keeping their options open.

here's to the end of those &*(&*(* whippy sticks, then

Here's some close up pics of the Limited edition Chaplain sprue from my blog. I took pictures of the assembly and made a video here: http://itslikewatchingpaintdry.blogspot.ca/2012/09/dark-vengeance-sprue-and-assembly-video.html

I like that his head and pistol are separate and ripe for conversions. I also like that the base isn't as built in to the figure as some of the fantasy ones are.

Is it just me, or does the scope on the plasma pistol on the LE Chaplain appear to be on backwards?

Compared to Isle of Blood - this thing looks much better seperated. IoB looked like GW was giving us the middle finger for separating armies with friends.

Now when a bunch of us are crowded around the hood of a Honda outside of a Shell gas station late night from driving some hours to go pick up 4 to 6 of these starter set, we can get this stuff separated easier and not have to figure out if that strange looking bit located next to Skaven is actually a piece that goes to the Lothern musician while every passerby is looking at us like we are dealing drugs including one sheriff that asked us what we were doing.

Fun times.
