Hi all.

Now im planing on making a Space Marine Costume.
Now. It doesn't have to be pro but im looking at what i could make.

(first i want to do the weapons first)

The weapons im thinking of making are;
a Thunder hammer.
and a Boltgun
(i could do something else but i have materials to make a Thunder haammer)

I know i won't be able to make the whole Suit. But say like i had the shoulder pads or backpack. NOT DOIN A HELMENT (because it will be hard and, well i could do it but ill do the body first)
Ii wan't to know, 1st, what matrials i should use. Foam is the best i can get my hands on.

Also i wan't to make it to my size, and in the future im able to use it again.
im about 170-180cm in hight and have a normal body size (Not Fat or too skinny)

Also should i make it for the Ultramarines or do another chapter. (i could do my own chapter)

I recommend googling for existing costumes and seeing if the creators have published articles or instructions detailing how they made theirs.

cut out a shape inside the shoulder pad so it can fit on my arm.

i can cut out before i stick it all togeather or dig a hole when it is all stuck

I saw my first SM costume back in 1988. I have YET to see a better one than the trio I saw back then (beakies, too).

My advice would be "just don't do it."

Unless you have the tools and access to the right materials, it won't look that good, and it will take you longer than two months to make it (Halloween is my birthday).

I know you are probably full of youthful enthusiasm, but without some skill and a proper idea of what you want, the costume is not going to look anything like what you want it to.

it's only going to be basic. if a space marine is too much i can do a scout. i just wat to do a bolter.

I can help with the thunder hammer, but bolter is another matter. For the TH, take a length of pvc pipe and use cut foam for the head

how is an easy way to make a boltgun like out of foam or cut pieces of wood. or cardboard.

Plywood would probably be the easiest to make a Bolter out of, If you have the right tools. (Basically just a Jigsaw)

Just print out a picture from google to the size you want (in parts cut up with photoshop) and use that as a template for the pieces.

ive made the bolter and the bolt pistol. The body and the sholder pads. No pics yet only had like 5 mins to write this.

It does look basic, but i dont care. and what can be easy to cover the sholder pad.
ok its made out of foam. but there are holes and stuff in the sholder pads, i want to cover them. My friend said use paper mache but another friend said that it wont stick on the foam.

Like anything, practice makes perfect. If you don't start off with some crappy pieces when you're young, you'll never work your way up to...

As for covering foam shoulderpads, I don't know. Maybe try painting it with PVA, then putting paper mache over it?

As a replica prop builder, I can give you a ton of advice on building some power armour. Unfortunately, you won't want to hear some of it. I resonate that this is going to take you months (if not a few years) to build, and that's not even pro. I've been working with different materials for a number of years now, and there are a lot of baby steps invovled before one can successfully tackle something like this. There are a lot of armour building prop sites around, and I would recommend starting there. But I would also recommend you do so without a Halloween deadline, because it just isn't realistic.

As for materials, I would strongly recommend you incorporate fibreglass into the armor, Another option for the armour is ABS using a vacuum forming machine (not hard to build, I'm told). Fibreglass, done right, can be quite light weight and very durable. ABS is easier and cheaper, and way less dangerous to work with, but may not have the durability because of the size of parts. Storm Troopers all use this method, but a power armour shoulder pad may not form properly with vac-forming.

It should be noted that this is going to be damned heavy, regardless of using fibreglass of ABS. Foam, IMO, is going to be a trainwreck and weight a ton. As you are starting to find out, it's also not very good to work with, as you can't really attach anything to it. I don't really have any advice there, aside from sew parts together.

I'm happy to provide more advice as needed. I'd just need to see what your progress is and what you are working with.

It's fairly difficult to get all the pieces correct. Some of the biggest flaws I notice are the shape of the shoulder pots, and the Knee-caps. Plus, you have to make it to fit your body, and be able to move in it.

It would be worth it though!

Cos-play as a marine is cool and all but Orks would be WAAAAAAAAY cooler
