Really want to start a Dark Angels army after getting Dark Vengence, how would you suggest I get to strengthen it?

Should I use the much older DA Codex, or just the C:SM for now until it gets re-released?

Thanks!

Do you want to play deathwing or ravenwing? Do you plan to use Belial or Sammael even if you don't plan to use a full deathwing or ravenwing force? If not, then use the normal SM codex until the DA one is redone later this year.

As for how to collect them?

A second dark vengeance box where you can trade out the chaos for more dark angels.

If you want a ravenwing force, the ravenwing box set is really a good bargain.

I suggest you get 2 or 3 of the dark angels upgrade sprues. It can make up to 5 complete marines with normal bolters (no bases included).

A box of tactical marines so you can give the above mentioned robed marines some special wargear unless you can get some bits from people as space marine bits tend to be pretty easy to come by.

Dark Vengance allows to build up a DA army for little money. I'm absolutely excited about this opportunity.
The starter set basically contains 10 Tacticals, 5 DW Termies, and 3 RW Bikers. You can easily expand from here. For this, I'd go to ebay and buy some more Tacticals, Termies, and Bikers. The prices here at ebay Germany are about 10 Euro for Termies and for Bikers. That's a real bargain. Not sure about 10 Tacticals, but they should be around 15 Euro.
I'd buy some models/units so that you end up with 20 DW Termies, 30 Tacticals, and 12 RW Bikers. This would allow you to play several armies: DW, RW, dualwing and whatnot.

But you wouldnt use any of those in a DA army . If someone wants to use tacs then taking an ally sm one or playing codex sm is better . DW is better with TH/SS and cylcons , so not even the AC dude will get much use . Cpt are horrible out of DA as are DA librarian. the libby could technicly be a non libby one used as ally , but the cpt realy has no use . Then there are the bikers , good with plasma but getting a full box just to get a libby and 3 bikers makes little sense .

maybe buy the AOBR set if you can find it? pairing it plus the Dv set would net you a fair amount, and then add on some rhinos and spare bikers plus the upgrade sprce and you could have a decent sizxed army

The problem with this question is your getting a lot of answers that are based on the old terrible codex. I would stick on a holding pattern te the new dex drops later this year. At least then we will have a clearer picture on what works and what doesnt.

Nevertheless, the starter set and the ebay offers allows you to collect the models in advance. It should be clear that DW Termies, RW Bikers, and Tacticals will play a significant role in the new codex.

I agree with that I was just saying I wouldn't go out and buy a storm raven or anything like that tell we see if they can use them or not.

That will be a lot of points, but nonetheless playable at the 2000 pt level.

I did mean for 2000, and it's possibly the most fun army ever

I have done the same thing and managed to get a 1500pt army from it and a few extras. I bought 2 more boxes of Terminators, one of each kind, then added in a spare Dreadnought I had lying around at home and I was done. I converted a Belial out of one of the assault Terminators and using an old one at home I have myself a full army.

Bruins fan till the end.

Never assume anything, it will only make an ass of you and me.
