I'm in the final stages of planning out a new set of furniture for my home and I thought I'd crowd source a little. I'm an unabashed fan of arts and crafts furniture, and I get that not everyone is. I need a little help picking between variations of a mission style settle. One is more of a Gustav Stickley design from the turn of the 20th century and the other is an L and JG Stickley design of closer to 1910. I fancy one more than the other but I won't say.

Hmm so the extended arms are a plus?
Should I add a third option?
Which is sort of a hybrid.

Option 2.
However, don't you have an SO? If so, you're acting like your opinion, much less ours, matters.

She who must be obeyed makes many demands. However when it comes to furniture she allows me wide leeway. She gave me the go ahead for two 6ft settles and a matching chair. I get to pick the details of the woodwork, mostly because I have to make it. And she has demanded that the cushions be leather, so I'll pay someone for that. Given the fact that these generally retail for about 2-4k per settle and 1k for a chair and I can build them for a fraction of that including tool costs the Boss is willing to roll the dice and holds the veto option to sell them at a profit. SWMBO also allows me creative control in my office which is getting a Douglas fir settle (the prototype). We may extend this style to our bedroom and dining room for a heirloom set. The final product will be red oak or ash, since my preferred yard doesn't seem to have 8/4 ash at all it seems that unless another yard has hard maple or ash for a song it'll be oak.

Kronk: I'm intent on a dark Danish Oil but dependent on the figure of the final piece I may choose a medium brown. I kind of have to plan for the natural darkening of the pieces over time too. The one finish I won't use is a poly. The need to be rerubbed from time to time and poly is too tough...which is normally good.

I like the look of option 3, and it give you a place to set a glass without needing an end table or similar (with a coaster, obviously). The only part I don't like are the tiny supports for the arm rests, or whatever they're called. The ones in option 2 are too big, and the ones in option 3 are too small, if that makes any sense. The medium brown stain sounds right, then. Best of luck and post pictures, which ever you choose.

My beef with both option 2 and 3 is the wrap around rail. I sort of like it stylistically but it presents a problem in support. I hate the corbels wit a deep passion but the horizontal rail requires it. I think the guy who built the 3rd one had the se dilemma. I may run through sketch up and see if running a dado in the rails and going around and not over the corners would look right. I also intend on having tables regardless so thats really not much of an issue. Ideally I'd like to end up with the 2 settles, a chair, ottoman, coffee table, and a tv stand that match.
Thank you all for your input so far.

I suppose that's fair. I like the simple rustic style but my taste has been called "institutional" in the past. I'm in the crawl phase right now, my run phase is to have all the rooms in the house in quality furniture and the garage and offices with a faux antique pine look, if I dig in my pics long enough I'll post a picture of me Da's basement which is done in weathered cedar. His basement is bigger than my house though.

I wish I could offer an explaination, but this is exactly how I feel about option 2 as well. I think perhaps it's the lighter stain with the black leather. I'd say either 1, or 3 with 1's stain and leather on it.

I prefer art deco myself, but my S/O is a big fan of the older Gustav Stickley arts & crafts designs. Anyway, she says the G Stickley is more classic. But to be honest, I've really gotta agree with Frazzled on this one: however many people from Dakka vote, your S/O gets that many votes +2, so does any of this matter?

I ran it through sketch up with just arms, which after some research is a classic design in arts and crafts just not any of the Stickley brothers. I didnt do the rear slats because sketchup is my mortal enemy.
