I just started playing 40k a few months ago, but have acquired a decent army in short period of time. However i am having difficulties dealing with my friends ork army. Granted he has about 4k points to choose his army from and i am doing all i can to play at 2K. He is a well seasoned player, and really knows his stuff which is a bit of a disadvantage for this noob as well. I am looking for all of the advice i can get, so i thought i would throw this thread out there. I have played numerous point levels against him and have not once pulled a "W". I did manage to draw once i think, but was a lower point game. I constantly feel greatly outnumbered against his orks, for instance our last 1500 game (lists below) he had a good 20-25 more models as he usually does.
His list looked a bit like this:
Biker nob boss
6-Nob bikers (1 pain boy)
2 squads of 5-6 lootaz
2 squads of 20 shoota boyz / couple of nobs
Truk w/ 4 meganobs
Dakka jet
My list:
D-Lord
10x warriors
Ghost ark
Immortals/Gauss x7
Immortals/tesla x8
Destroyers x3
Wraiths x4 (2 WC, 1 PC, 1 TB)
Lynchguard x6
Night Scythe
Spyder x1 (claws and PB)
Anni Barge x1
My biggest problem is CC, but then there is the 48" range on the lootaz. Any suggestions on tactics/strategy, list mod, or any good advice that is not spamming flyers would be greatly appreciated!

Is that everything you have to work with?
If you really want to upset him, get Imotekh and pick up (or proxy) 5 crypteks and use them as harbingers of destruction, stick them in cover and within range of shooting things...there's not much they won't drop quickly. Or take 4 of them and one chrono-tek so you can reroll a missed hit. Or stick your d.lord with them for pref enemy, but that's kind of a big waste (unless you take a second one for just that purpose).

That is great advice. I have tried running a couple of crypteks but they were attached to individual units. I do have more army at my disposal.Above list + Overlord, warriors x15, scarabs x8, deathmarks x5 (just got 2 more destroyers in the mail). I thinned out Immortals (both), and LG for this list. Not by a lot though. Fortunately my buddy is very cool with proxy. I have been a little intimidated by the trixy, seeing as i am learning the game at the same time. It is a lot to recall in the heat of battle. It might be time to get more use out of the upgrades and the trixy.
I appreciate the the reply!

Few things I can see: Your lacking in the troops section. Its your 10 Warriors and 15 Immortals against 40 shoota boys. I'd quite frankly bump a immortal squad to 10, then drop the other in favor of another warrior squad in an ark. When you say anni barge, I'll assume its a doomsday. If your tooling to take out orks (or even playing all comers), then why take it, nothing really is better than AV 11. Swap it out for a Doom Scythe, in 6th control of air space is ridiculously important. Whoever wipes their opponents flyers out first gets to fire a barrage on guns at the enemy. Just take out the jet asap. Destroyers are a HUGE no, as they are no longer jet bikes. Go for those jetbikes if you like converting, if not then praetorians may be nice as well. Theres always room for more warriors as well Maybe drop the spider or wraiths for a chariot and some reg. lords to lead your warrior So the list should be something like this: D-Lord 3 reg. lords chariot 10x warriors ghost ark 10x warriors ghost ark 10x warriors ghost ark 10x immortals Lynchguard Night Scythe Doom Scythe

Ya, I've had phenomenal luck with that cryptek layout I mentioned, at times it will be overkill shooting 4 or 5 of those Eldritch lances at the same target but splitting them up either hampers their usefulness or the usefulness of the squad they're in.
Oh ya, what's the typical point level you play at?

DLords dont open up a court, so unless he buys a surfboard OLord (WS PS MSS CCB) to go on tank hunting, no Crypteks or reg. Lords unfortunately.
My advice is buy a CCB kit & run as above

Do you have any Money to spend for new Models? There are a lot of variable routes, but it partly depends on how much money you can/willing to spend for some new models.
Some general things about Orks, If lootas are bothering you, a Solar pulse can at least buy you one full turn of neutering his shooting. Imotekh is a waste, here. He can't use his Seize, and his Lightning I find tends to really not be that handy against Orks.
If you can pick up another barge kit or two, they will help a lot. Abarges are great for Light Vehicle duty, and Anti-infantry, and The Chariot isn't to shabby either.
Going with what you have, I'd try to run something like this at 2k
2000 Pts - Necrons Roster
1 Overlord Warscythe; Mindshackle Scarabs; Sempiternal Weave; Phase Shifter;
1 Catacomb Command Barge , Gauss Cannon
1 Destroyer Lord, 1 Warscythe; Sempiternal Weave; Mindshackle Scarabs; Resurrection Orb
1 Harbinger of Destruction ; Gaze of Flame; Solar Pulse;
Troops: Warriors
9 Warriors,
1 Ghost Ark
10 Immortals, Tesla Carbine
9 Immortals, Tesla Carbines
6 Canoptek Wraiths,
6 Canoptek Wraiths,
5 Destroyers, Gauss Cannon x3; Heavy Gauss Cannon x2;
1 Annihilation Barge, Gauss Cannon
1 Annihilation Barge, Gauss Cannon
1 Annihilation Barge, Gauss Cannon
Now, I know you don't have everything here, but the additions really arn't that huge, and they can go a long way. You can use your Solar Pulse to neuter the Lootas shooting for a turn. This will give you time to get everything in position. Wraiths can get the charge turn 2-3, depending on where the lootas are, and Destroyers can start plowing away at them from turns 2-3.
Throw the Lance in with the Warriors in the Ghost Ark. Once the Lootas are gone, you'll be a very powerful gunboat, with few things that can threaten it. Just continue to pump shots out from it.
Use tesla to thin out the Hordes to manageable levels before they reach you. The Abarges are great at this, and don't forget about their Arc rule. While it may not come into play all the time, it helps when it does. Wraiths can easily take out thinned out Orks, but don't send them in at a mob that's close to full strength.
As for your Immortals, Tesla Vs Gauss, it mostly depends on preference. I still prefer to take Tesla, but Gauss is a very viable choice now, compared to 5th edition.

Thanks everybody. I will definitely be giving a lot of thought and see what i can do next match (maybe this coming Sunday). I am definitely going to experiment a bit more with the RC. To be honest, my destroyer unit was/is my answer to his ever growing mob of meganobz. They have performed well for me, but i can see your point with the bikes. I will post my list once i get more time to really look and plan one. I will also attempt my first battle report if we do manage to play Sunday.
