Hi guys.
What games have you heard of, played, watched videos of, seen other people play, etc, that were so unbelievably terrible they actually had a charm about them?
Personally the worst offender for me was Soul Calibur IV. Cheesy dialogue, ludicrous outfits, stupid storyline (or rather lack thereof) and annoying voices...And yet it's actually pretty fun.
As for games I haven't actually played, Bubsy 3D. Enough said.

Fire Warrior. It fit the 40k Asthetic perfectly, and I loved th elevels on the imperial spaceship. Gameplay was terrible, visuals were pretty cool. I would go as far as saying it felt like warhammer 40,00 more than Space Marine.

This is true of most of the Army Men games - I loved the first one and it was pretty great for its time, but after that they just got worse and worse. I know I've played through a couple since.
I replayed Red Faction II a few years ago. it was basically my first deathmatch FPS, and one of the first FPS games I ever beat. I thought the story, voice acting, cinematics and gameplay were awesome when it came out. Granted, I was 12 and hadn't played Halo, the game most of the mechanics were lifted from. I played it again after years of games like Half Life 2, Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 3, Portal and so on and found it had aged horribly. Even some of its contemporaries like the first Halo hold up rather well, while RF2 is absolute garbage. If I didn't grow up with the game it definitely wouldn't have been anything special.

I'm not sure, actually. Usually if I find a game to be terrible, I don't enjoy it. To me, a terrible game is one that I find no enjoyment in. I suppose the closest to what you may call terrible is darksiders II. The platforming is horrible, the story is a convoluted mess, the navigation system doesn't work properly and the pseudo-rpg elements are kinda clunky. But...I do like the graphical style and the open world elements of the game. I am probably on of the few people who likes Death as a protagonist, and the combat is decent. I've experienced more satisfying hack and slash action, sure, but it is adequate.

I mean, its a fighting game. Everything you listed takes a back seat to the mechanics. Hell, Street Fighter, Tekken, and Blaz Blue are all absurd; but they're still probably the 3 best examples of the genre.
I think a better example of a fighter that's so bad its good is the Smash Brothers series. Most fighting games have tiers, but Smash makes essentially no attempt to balance its characters, and the default game mode includes random item drops and stage hazards. It isn't a very good fighter, but its still a fun game.
Anyway, the ultimate "so-bad-its-good" game is anything in the Dynasty Warriors series.

This one's pretty obvious for me:
Oblivion,
This game is a buggy mess with hideous graphics, garbage storyline, abominable voice acting, largely shonky combat, uncounted game breaking bugs all along with a soundtrack that looped more than a super nintendo game but........
It was still awesome.

All games in the Gamebryo engine, even as good as they get (Fallout: New Vegas, one of my favorite games of all time) have an element of this due to how hilariously buggy that engine is. It's not a bug, it's a feature!

They are always worth persevering with but every so often a flailing mass of elongated polygons or floating NPC will try their best to smash your immersion to tiny pieces.
Tbh most the best games are the buggiest. It takes alot of ambition and effort to create systems so complex where sooo much can go wrong.

Ok, someone is going to call heresy here but...
UFO: Enemy Unknown.
The game was a cheating prick who gave the enemy tons of bonuses to hide their gakky AI.
Your soldiers are even more incompetent than imperial stormtroopers, and for some reason they don't know what cover is.
And by Hades it was fun! Nothing more satisfying than blaster bomb spam.
Provided the spam is on your turn.

Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires. The AI is hideously bad, even battles that are tilted your way will go completely sour in minutes, and you'll frequently find entire swaths of both your soldiers and enemies just standing in a line, staring at each other.
Still, it was all kinds of silly just playing as one general, armed with a polearm or something, cutting your way through an entire enemy army without stopping.

Shattered Union.
Difficulty curve was broken (the balls against the wall difficult part of the game is the first quarter, the second half of the game is a cake walk with your eyes closed) and the story was the same for all 7 factions even though there were 4 of the factions were EXTREMELY different from each other in terms of goals/reasons for fighting the war.
EndWar
also for something mentioned in the other thread. It simply followed the same routine for every battle once the prologue section of the game was over. (The prologue was actually kind of good) with end game litterally just ending
I enjoy BOTH games however (getting them for 6 dollars on steam helped)

Dead Island
The game's NPC interaction, storyline, characters, and multiplayer were AWEFUL. The game was so NOT the trailer that it should have been a crime.
However playing a zombie killer on a beautiful beach with mainly melee weapons only was great. The game combat mechanics as a whole were really good and made indoor areas downright terrifying... except the stupid frogger jump headbash that kind made things a lil too easy.

I think that having good combat mechanics in a game that's built around combat doesn't make it "so bad it's good" exactly, but I do agree that pretty much everything outside the actual gameplay mechanics was pretty shoddy. What was bad about the multiplayer though? That game was wicked fun with a few buddies.

If you had pre-planned groups it was ok. Playing pickup matchs was REALLY hit and miss, jumped you aroudn the story line, and if you were a thrower you had to pray everytime you threw a weapon you wouldn't get disconnected and lose that orange con weapon.
For a game that was touted from it's trailer as a psycological heart twisted the game failed on all ground that were pure combat and scenery.. which in a first person RPG are rather important.

In fairness (with Dead Island, that is), the Ryder White DLC has a kickass story compared to that of the original game. I've never felt quite so sorry for a villain before.
And that twist at the end, holy crap, did that make me want to see what happens next with the plot.
