Ok so here`s the situation.. I`m relatively new to the game so don`t rip me for something obvious

I want to make an army with Deathwing units.. a storm raven and maybe a couple storm talons.. Which according to the latest rulebook update on GW.. I can`t do.. Though it doesn't really explain why.

Only Vanilla Chapters can have Talons.. and only GK and BA can have the Stormraven.. As I interpret it anyway..

Now as you know.. Vanilla.. BA and DA are battle brothers.. so I can have them fight together as if they were essentially one chapter.. I don`t think there are any special rules about requiring a set number of unit types from a support Army in order to use them.. Or at least I havent read it yet

I don't really want to have a mostly DA army and then ruin the colour scheme by having a Red Stormraven and two Blue Stormtalons..

So... Any reason why I can`t do what I want?

Under the couch

Outside of Apocalypse games, no, that doesn't fit into the current rules.

You can include an Allied detachment, but there are certain requirements in the Allies rules as to what you need to take, and you can't take allies from two different armies.

If you're just playing with friends, you can of course run your list past them and they may not mind, but it probably won't fly for pick up games, and would definitely be out for tournaments.

Ok cheers,

I need to go back to the rule book and look at the allies requirements

I might just push up the points to Apocalypse size too..

Thanks : )

There's no way of doing what you want directly in terms of unit selection although the allies rule will get you close. Do bear in mind that there is also the Storm Eagle which is available to most armies. You could take a Codex Dark Angels all terminator army with StormEagles and then ally in a small Codex Space Marine detachment with a single Storm Talon. Alternatively, you could just take a terminator heavy C:SM army with a bunch of Storm Talons and Storm Eagles.

You can paint your models any way that you want.Just because it's an allied detachment from the blood angels codex doesn't mean you have to paint them red (but do make sure your opponent has some way of distinguishing them because there are some rules differences)
