So I was planning a new Black Templar army based on the Idea that Sigismund did not die and that his ship was lost in the warp. The army will be primarily Sword Bretheren. I will be running 3 units, all with Storm Shields. My troops will be crusader squads. Thew will all be in the mrk 3 armor.

I will ally in regular black templars who will be in the modern armor. But before i undergo this is there any background in the fluff to my idea?

I dont understand how you're going to 'ally' Black Templars to an already Black Templars army, seeing as the Allies contingent has to be a different Codex to your primary detachment... unless you mean ally in the general sense.

Anyways, your army, your fluff, go for it. It could happen, though Im sure Sigismund would be happy that the crusade he started recently would go on for another ten thousand years.

Ok, i was just curious if he died. What would be a good army for the black templars to find and aid on the battlefield? I was thinking IG

I was also considering using http://www.princeaugust.ie/target_games/tg2420-1.html as my guard units. Would the average player be opposed to that?

Doubtful. Marines aren't allowed to take command of IG units.

I have those guard looking models. I bought about 60 of them for £3 for 10 from some guy on ebay.

Unless you conver them alot give them guard weapons and stuff I don't think people will accept them as guards man.

I took my into the store and only the ones i glued meltaguns and plasmaguns was allowed.

Alright, how hard was it to do weapon swaps, i was thinking about getting a bunch of the elasian drop guys weapons off forgeworld and swapping there, any idea?

Unlikely, but there are some situations where seeing them joined could make sense, such a ship with black templars and Guardsmen (perhaps the black templars were helping to evacuate them before exterminatus or something) gets lost in the warp. They could also be chapter serfs. Isn't very common for them to fight alongside marines, but it is certainly possible, and most probably have some military training.

As for whether or not those would be accepted as count as, as long as special weapons were noticably modeled on (I can tell who has a pistol and who has a meltagun, and who is a basic guardsman with a quick glance) I would be fine, but check with your local meta. If everyone uses all GW stuff, ask, if people run around with count-as Guard armies using all models from another company odds are in your favour.

The old WarZone models take alot of converting to look like decent gaurdsmen.

The Elysian models are actually puny compared to even normal guards so I am doubting their weapons will look good at all on those models.

If your doing a Black Templar army with IG mixed in for allies, I would recommend Steel Legion. They fought with the Templars in the Armaggedon Wars.

Not per se; however, the Black Templars have a number of fortress monasteries on planets spread around the galaxy. It would certainly make sense for some/all/most of these planets to have a planetary defense force that you could model as IG that would work with the Black Templars to defend the planet/region if it were attacked by filthy xenos or renegades.

The background behind what im trying to do is that Sigismund and his company went missing in the warp. They come out in the modern time into a warzone where the local guard forces are being crushed. They assume command like they would in the preherasy time to lead them to victory or defeat.

There's a bit in Helsreach where there's a fighter wing that impressed the Templars enough to be allowed to fly with the Templar Cross painted on their fuselage.

Almighty: Wasnt there a bit in the Crusade/Conquest for armgeddon about that as well? I am not sure if you have read those books or not....

I do remember that there was a bit in a novel (one of the two aboved that was mentioned) about a dreadnought that came to armageddon via drop pod, and landed on impassable terrian and had a bad roll and scattered (all the other pods landed together but his). The dread ended up hooking up with either IG or PDF until he could re-group with his battle brothers. There was a skirmish where he shot down a ork fighter, and the ork tried to kill the dread by crashing in to it, but only managed to get a weapon destroyed result (he lost his lascannon arm) so they used a multi-laser from a sentinal.

Seeing as how Yarrick is crusading along with Helbrecht currently, it stands to reason theyve got a sizeable Steel Legion force tagging along.

Indeed - they are one of the many cool things in that novel - if you are a BT player - it is surely a must read...........

Also its worth noting that whilst the Imperium is not keen on the Astartes taking command of crusades /wars etc - quite often it happens - partly due to their abilities, partly due to few wanting to object to it! - but this will usually last only until the misison is completed. Long term Guard, Navy or Mechanicus attachements to Astartes would be highly unusual and very suspicious to the Inquisiton - it was one of the things that the Tyrant of Badab was doing....

Good examples of Astartes command over other forces include the orbital defence of Armegeddon, the whole of Helsreach novel, the recent Wrath of Iron......

re your OP - it is indeed possible that the BT could allow a regiment to accompany them to war - or even evacuate worthy fighters if they had to retreat from an enemy (like say Tryanids) but they would keep the association as short as possible IMO - most Astartes really don't understand the weaknesses of true humans and can find it /them quite disgusting.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/wrath-of-iron.html - this also shows quite how ruthless the Asartes can be when they have a mission to fulfill and what they are willling to expend to get it done from guard to Mechanicus God Machines............ There are quite a few other examples of this with other chapters as well - its also unlikely that many other Imperial forces will last long alongside the Astartes (or indeed would want to).

Sigismund could still be alive, everything is all weird in the warp, people get tossed in and out all the time
