In my ongoing effort to do battle damage, I have finished a venerable dreadnought. The combat arm is converted from four chainswords.

What do you think?

Good start. I feel like you could have done more minor knicks and dings, as right now all you have is large damage marks. Vary it up a bit. The chainswords feel a bit tacked on, but like I said, good start.

I really like it, but like warpseer said, it needs more of a variety of damage. The way it is right now it looks like it walked off of the assembly line and got blasted right away. Realistic battle damage should be done with the age of the machine (dreadnoughts could be 1000s of years old), materials it is made of (ceramite or whatever), various weapons and conditions it has faced (bullet dings, scratches and scuffs, dents from smashing through walls, etc) and even environmental conditions (sun faded, dusty, rusty, etc) all kept in mind.
I like the fact that you're going for real battle damage and I like the close combat arm a lot! It's a great start. For inspiration on damage I always use construction equipment like bulldozers and such as an easy source.

Looks good but for the love of gawd, paint over his name. It really takes away from a nice paint job.

But then nobody would know his super cool name.

It's a DIY chapter I'm working on called the Stone Sentinels.

The paintjob looks great! I do think he's a bit plain. Some gold decorations for a Venerable Dreadnought would not only be appropriate, but really make him pop!
