My question is, Do Space Marines ever from Alliances with each other?

In the Badab War the Astral Claws were in a group called the Wardeners. So this has happened before.

But can it be done by completely loyal chapters?

Like chapter A and Chapter B are crusading chapters, they fight in a war together and they become good allies, then eventually their fleets start sticking together and they work with each other on everything.

Any Input would be helpful, Thanks

They ally with each other all the time as the situation demands, basically.

Depending on what each of the Chapters thinks of one another, of course. There are feuds and rivalries - but also friendships and alliances. Usually (to my knowledge, from what I've read in GW sources) the alliances are not actually official in a way that they form a special sub-group within the Astartes operating under its own distinctive name, instead simply helping each other out in times of need. Of course, most Chapters are big on pride and thus would loathe asking for help unless they really need it, and some not even then.

Anyways, one example of one such group with a distinctive name that I do know of are the Astartes Praeses; they were mentioned in the Imperial Force Disposition Chart of the 13th Black Crusade and were allegedly formed with the express purpose to safeguard the regions surrounding the Eye of Terror against Chaos incursions. The original size of this group was mentioned to be 20 Chapters.

Many times Chapters that come from the same Primarch will be rather loyal to one another, example being Imperial Fists/Black Templars/Crimson Fists.

Or the Primogenitors, the Chapters with Ultramarines geneseed. They're a pretty close bunch, despite all the differences in traditions - like the Mortifactors and Ultramarines (the Ultramarines Omnibus)

To be honest, there is no way there are 15 Salamander successors. When the Codex Astartes was first enforced, there were too few of them left to even be a full chapter.

...my group doesn't care about that fluff, we're more into interesting armies than official fluff.

Fair enough. As far as names go, I suppose you could go with something like Flame(s) of the Emperor. Keep a bit of the Salamander flavor in there, but the reference is to a higher power and therefore doesn't necessarily link to any particular legion.

That's true, what do you think about brotherhood of fire? All of my chapters have something to do with fire and or reptiles.

Brotherhood of Flame?
Brotherhood of the Furnace?
Champions of the Crucible!

.. or perhaps "pseudo-latin'ify" them a bit? Would make it sound a little more exotic and would fit to the Astartes, imo.

First, it happens ALL THE TIME. Its extremely common for Space Marines to form tight alliances. They may no crusade with each other 24/7 but they form a special bond that if one ask for help the other will come running.

There are over a 1000 Chapters currently active in the Imperium's service, WAY more than a 1000 in the history of the Imperium, do you really think that the Salamanders were able to contribute even 15 chapters to the Imperium of the 10 thousand years they have existed?

Also, just because they didnt contribute in the second founding doesnt mean they havnt done a lot sense than. The second founding probably didnt even create a full 300 chapters .. and after that founding, all the Legions had the same numbers so they were all on equal footing (minus the Space Wolves but they dont count)

If the UM contribute 75% of all current Chapters (750ish) that leaves 250 divided up between 7 chapters (SWs dont contribute last I checked) [Holy feth GW should really fix this fluff, one chapter contributes 750 chapters while the other 7 contribute 250ish combined? I understand the UMs are awsome but thats over the top.]

Blood Angels have horrible geneseed so probably contribute very little leaving 6 left.

Now if we do this math we see that yes it is possible that right now, there may not be 15 Salamanders chapters CURRENTLY but to say they were unable to contribute 15 over the 10thousand years of their service is a bit insane. Even than I would expect them to be behind only the Imperial Fist and Raven Guard in contribution to the Imperium. (From a logic standpoint, nothing else)

2000pts. Cadians
500pts Imperial Fist

Holy Terra duhhh

Some chapters will ally with one another due to the fact that they share the same geneseed of their primarch (Ex. Novamarines and Ultramarines). Also some chapters sometimes outright refuse to get along and may even leave the battlefield due to the other chapter. Ex. Dark Angels and Space Wolves

For the Lion and Death to all chaos filth.
For the Emperor!!!

2000 pts Blue Moon Ork Warband
2500 pts Imperial Guard Regiment "Javion IV 7th Regiment"
1000pts Templars of Oden 2nd Company
