Subject: Rune Priests and BRB psychic powers, how do they work

I've been reading various forums discussing space wolf HQ's. You're allowed to take two of them per HQ slot as long as they don't have the same war gear and Psychic powers, what exactly does this mean? Can no two pieces of gear be identical or does it simply mean that they can't have the exact same loadout?
For this example I will use two rune priests.
They both start with the same war gear and no matter what I do to change them they will both have a force weapon am I then breaking the rules by taking two rune priests?
Psychic powers from the codex seem pretty cut and dry, I can't take the same powers. But what happens when I roll on the table in the back of the BRB. Say I roll a 3 on the divination table for Priest #1 I take it and roll a 2 for the other power and decide to take the primarus power instead. I then roll for Priest #2 and I roll another 3... What happens?
The codex says that no two can have the same powers.. I can't select the primarus power because the other priest has it. The only other options I can see would be to re roll or get no power at all.
I have done a bit of googling and forum searching for the answer to this, have not had much luck.

They cannot have the same loadout, cannot have the same codex powers but they brb powers don't count.
Having some of the same wargear is not the same as having the same wargear.
Read the codex and the faq, it makes it very clear.

As far as I have seen it ruled and played, the difference in just one psychic power is enough for them to be different.

I've never seen this, as it specifies wargear and Psychic powers.
Regardless of that the faq does sum it up nicely.

Thank you guys for clearing this up so quickly. I had skimmed the FAQ, but didn't happen to catch it at the end of the Q&A. I now know that I can take as many as 4 rune priests with divination. Neat.

You have to have different wargear and different psychic powers. So jotww and LL on RP Bob and LL and murderous hurricane on RP Bill.

Choose Divination. Roll on chart. Take power or default to primaris power, prescience. Then take JotWW.
That is how it is done.

No, that is wrong.
You take 2 codex powers or 2 brb powers. No mix and matching.
If yiu want prescience and jotww get 2 priests.

You're not allowed to do this. You must take both powers from the codex or both powers from the BRB.

It's always been this way. But just in case there was any confusion, the FAQ clears it up. On the last page of the FAQ for the BRB, on the right hand side. Q: Can psychic powers be mixed and matched from the psychic disciplines and those found in the Codexes? (p418) A: No. You may select from the psychic powers listed in the Codex as normal or swap them for a number of rolls on the psychic disciplines tables. So...for all of you Space Wolf players, this is how you're supposed to do it... During army list creation, you MUST select two psychic powers from the Space Wolf codex for EACH rune priest. Because of the "leaders of the pack" rule on page 81 of the SW codex, no two rune priests may take the same COMBINATION of powers. That means that its' ok for you to give two (or three or four) rune priests JotWW. But if you do that, then their second powers must all be unique. Just before the game begins - after you've had a peak at your opponent's list - you may choose to exchange BOTH codex powers for two randomly selected powers from the BRB. You don't have to do this - it's your choice, but you must make this decision for each psyker in your army list. If you decide to take the random powers from the BRB, then for each roll you select a psychic discipline. Space Wolves may choose from Divination, Biomancy or Telekenisis. Roll on the associated table to generate your psychic power. If you don't like the power that you have rolled, you may exchange the random power for the primaris power from that discipline. Now read this from the SW FAQ Q: Can you clarify how The Leaders of the Pack works with regards to psychic powers? (p81) A: No number of Rune Priests may share the exact same two psychic powers. For example, a Rune Priest may choose to take Living Lightning and Thunderclap. A second Rune Priest may then choose to take Living Lighting and Jaws of the World Wolf, as he will not have the same two psychic powers as the first Rune Priest. Note that the restriction on weapons and wargear still applies, so you have to have each Rune Priest with a unique wargear selection. Also note that Njal Stormcaller knows all seven powers rather than just two, so no other Rune Priest can end up having the same powers. Thus it is permitted to take Njal Stormcaller alongside other Rune Priests. If you choose instead to take psychic powers from the disciplines in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook, this restriction does not apply, as the specific powers are selected randomly.

Yes, the rulebook power selection process specifies that you pick a discipline, roll to generate a power (and decide if you want to default to the primaris), and then decide if you want to roll on that discipline again, or a different one.
