So I've run into a strange circumstance with space wolves and honestly i don't mind giving my opponents the much needed help with this but if i am giving them advantages where i don't need to I would like to know/

With space wolves they are equipped with bolt pistols, chainswords, boltguns, frag nades and krak nades. What does this mean during an overwatch and following assualt if being assualted.

Could these wolves rapid fire during an overwatch with boltguns and then swap to their bolt pistol and chainsword in the middle for assualt for +1 attack during the assualt phase? or if they use bolters must they retain them during that past since it's part of the assualt phase now?

Please let me know if you can use alternative wargear as you choose or must stick with your options thanks

You can use all wargear.

They can shoot with the bolters, roll for counter attack and still use their +1 attack from their two ccw.

You can choose what weapons to use in CC, dante doesn't have to use his axe, these boys use their pistols and ccw's.

Griddle is right. If it dosent say you can use different weapons then you can. They are two seperate phases so unless stated otherwise the actions in one dont carry over to another. It is an intresting picture though, seeing a mad space marine pumping out lead with his bolter while trying to rev up his chainsword as well as getting his pistol off of safety.

Space marines don't need safeties, they just need more ammo.

Great! Glad we got that sorted out! I just wanted to know for sure like i said i didn't see a reason we couldn't do it that way so i let him. Thanks for all the responses so promptly he'll be thrilled to know

Yes.

The rules do not say that if you shoot rapid fire weapons you cannot use bolt pistols in close combat. The rules say that if you shoot rapid fire weapons in your own shooting phase then you may not initiate a charge with that unit. There is nothing that prevents you from shooting rapid fire in overwatch and then passing a leadership test to counterattack to get +1 attack and then using BP+CCW to get another +1 attacks.

So...your opponent declares a charge against your unit of grey hunters. Next, you shoot your overwatch - rapid firing your boltguns and plasmaguns if the enemy is within 12". After allocating any wounds, rolling saves and removing models, your opponent then rolls his dice to see how far he can charge. If he rolls high enough, then he moves into close combat. When all of his models are done moving, the grey hunters make a leadership test. If they pass, then they all get +1 attack for a total of 3 each ( 1 attack base + 1 for BP&CCW, +1 for counterattack).
