The moderation on this site is outrageous.
You are not allowed to post opinions that differ from the moderators own.
You are not allowed to argue any point.
You are not allowed to say you dislike anything anyone has done.
You are not allowed to make threads of something that has already been posted and yet reviving a thread more then a few pages away is also wrong.
I could go on, but I can't believe this is supposed to be the best war gaming site on the internet, and this is probably going to be deleted anyway.

Reviving a thread should be fine as it's the length of time since it's been last posted in. Generally you also want to be on topic to give it more of a chance, but some threads are just best kept dead in the end.

As for the others, I must be blind as I haven't really seen much of that about. Sure some of them can come across a bit crass on the odd occasion, but that seems to come down to interpretation more often than not.

You can do any of those things just fine here, it's just how you do them that counts. Well mostly.

You won't cop any flakk specifically for posting a different opinion. Sharing opinions is what discussion forums are for. It's how that opinion is expressed that potentially lands you in hot water.

That sort of goes hand in hand with point 1. Argument is fine, so long as it follows our primary rule, which is to be polite.

Nope, again. You're allowed to point out that you don't like something. But we ask that criticism of other posters' work be constructive, and that people try not to be rude about expressing their opinion.

Saying 'I don't like the combination of colours you have used... perhapd a blue instead of the green would work better' is fine.
Saying 'I don't like that... It's crap.' is not.

We discourage having multiple threads on the same topic all at once... but there is no problem whatsover with starting a new thread where a previous thread has been buried.
And while threadnomancy is discouraged in some areas of the site, in others (such as P&M) it is perfectly fine.


Given that you don't appear to have a history of run-ins with moderators so far, I can only assume that either you have done so under a different account, or you're a new user who has simply misunderstood some of what they have seen going on.

ULtimately, getting along on Dakka is simple. If you follow that one simple primary rule (Be Polite!) you will rarely have any reason to run afoul of the site's moderation.

I agree - the 61,942 users who have never had a warning from a moderator are just skirting the line so closely it is only a matter of time.

As Lego said, 60000+ other users have managed to figure it out, give yourself some time and maybe you will too.

You can pretty much say and post anything, so long as it follows the three main rules, and is not inappropriate to say a grade 7 classroom.

Disagreement is perfectly, perfectly fine, so long as it does not break the above.

For example, we will leave your thread here and un-edited, even though it is completely over the top and for all intents and purposes baseless in my personal opinion. No moderation team is perfect, and the rules will not suit everyone's preferences universally, but I think in general we do ok. If the rules really rankle you that much, then maybe Dakka is simply not the place for you, and without any rude purpose to saying so, there are plenty of sites you may like better.

If you end up liking Dakka then you are certainly more than welcome to stay, we welcome you and hope you change your mind with a bit more experience (if that is indeed the issue). If not, then I hope you find someplace else you can enjoy as you please.

Indeed it was. Personally I've always found the moderation team just and fair, as well as rather forgiving.

Just some words from another cog in the machine.

I must disagree with every point in the OP.

I find the moderators and admins here to be more than fair and exceptionally leniant, especially when compared to other forums I've frequented. They also participate actively in the community as a whole; where some moderation teams seclude themselves, or watch from afar like some sort of perverted policeman who found a pair of high-strength binoculars in the glove compartment of his car whilst on a stakeout across the road from a women's only gym, Dakkamods get to know the community they serve, and have a much better understanding for it.

Overall, I rate the moderation and administration of this site extremely highly, and never have I: had my socks stolen; my lego burned; my yak faced; become Alpharius; had my thread invaded by pictures of Japanese girls, or indeed anything else that could potentially be linked to a moderator or administrator.

Eh, I dislike a few members of the moderation, but I feel they're pretty lenient. They've let me stay around, even when they probably shouldn't have. The only real beef I have with them is their policy on 'don't make fun of religion', but then again who goes to a 40k forum to talk about religion? If I wanted to get in petty arguments about Jesus, I should probably find a different forum.

So yeah, I personally think that the moderators are mostly cool. Like 70% cool. Kid Kyoto is 100% cool, but malfred (being only 10% cool) drags their average coolness down by quite a bit.

No offense malfred.

I agree with the OP. The moderation staff in this dump is completely out of control.

I for one, am appalled.

This is somewhat right actually, but yes, the mods are generally good, I agree with 70%. There are some mods which I absolutely can't stand (Manchu), but others like Insaniak and the dude with sign avatar (forgot his name) are actually quite cool.

Manchu is on my ignore list. Hell, about half the regulars of Dakka OT are on my ignore list. When I first started going to Dakka, I was one of those people who gets into regular arguments with the same users over and over and over and over. Then I realized that this is an anonymous internet community. I don't need to impress anyone. Whenever I don't feel like debating someone, I can just stop. Its not like I have to worry about lookin' dumb or anything; I'm anonymous.

As a general rule, it's a good idea to remember that you're still responsible to heed any instruction given to you by a moderator whom you have on Ignore. So it can be a way to get yourself in worse trouble.

See, it's the above kind of thing that truly pisses me off about certain mods. I do the same thing (post a pic as a response, just like in the example above) and get banned for several days and/or have the post randomly deleted with no reasoning. Others do it (and other mods I might add (Frazzled)) and they get lauded for it. Try some consistency guys. For the most part I find the team to be A-ok, but the hypocrisy just annoys the hell out of me.

I think the word you're looking for is "inconsistency". We apologize for that. It's mostly a product of limited time and inability to see everything. Sometimes we just make mistakes, too.

Hypocrisy too. Mods do it (I've named one), other users do it. Then I do it, as it seems to be an acceptable thing but it's deemed to be spam certainly by one particular mod (Janthkin) who has suspended me twice for doing something I thought to be acceptable on this forum due to it being present in hundreds of other posts and other mods doing the very same thing. As I said hypocrisy and inconsistency.
