Others do it (and other mods I might add (Frazzled)) and they get lauded for it. Try some consistency guys. For the most part I find the team to be A-ok, but the hypocrisy just annoys the hell out of me. The answer is very simple. The Mods are human. MODS don't look at every post in every thread. If someone does something that you've gotten in trouble for, hit the yellow triangle. Report them. Let them know. Write a little note in the report. Or, you can sit there and have a pity party about it. I'll make you some hot chocolate, slugger.

You're right, its entirely too small.
The Mods are on the whole decent, and by decent it means they still have incriminating photos of TBone in a torrid affair with the nighbor's Siamese cat, so I'm always supportive of Mod actions. Hypocrisy too. Mods do it (I've named one), other users do it. Then I do it, as it seems to be an acceptable thing but it's deemed to be spam certainly by one particular mod (Janthkin) who has suspended me twice for doing something I thought to be acceptable on this forum due to it being present in hundreds of other posts and other mods doing the very same thing. As I said hypocrisy and inconsistency.

It gives me a good perspective. Frankly Mods on this board have to put up with a lot of crap that you don't see, from posters who are proof that most of humanity shouldn't breed.
Plus the pay is strictly minimum wage. Thats why you'll frequently find them scavenging the trash cans behind dakka on Fresh Fish Friday.

Consistency is something I think we broadly strive for but personally I don't think it's the ultimate goal. The highest priority I have as a moderator is encouraging an atmosphere where reasonable people can enjoy chatting about their wargaming hobbies. What do I mean by reasonable? Well, let me tell you what I mean by unreasonable. I find that users who are frequently moderated think of posting on a message board like being a citizen and that moderation should be like running a government. IMO, that is totally false. Rights, precedents, rulings, etc., are not really relevant here because nothing too important is on the line. In my eyes, this works out to me being very reluctant to edit, warn, and suspend generally but perhaps a bit less charitable to folks who repeatedly need editing, warning, and suspending.

There's also a matter of context. Moderation is an art not a science, as is posting.
Just posting a silly pic may be spam or it may be art.

A lot of it also comes down to the individual poster's history. The response to any particular rules infraction escalates for repeat offenders. So while posting a spammy pic is generally at worst going to result in the pic being removed and a warning, if you have a history of rules infractions those warnings are eventually going to turn into immediate short suspensions.
The vast majority of Dakka's posters never do anything that warrants moderator attention. As Lego pointed out, more than 60000 users without a warning. Of the 1500 or so who have at some point in the last 5 years received a moderator warning, the vast majority never receive more than one. In most cases, it's a simple matter of us pointing out that certain behaviour is unacceptable on this site and the poster saying 'Ok then' and everybody moving on.
So if you're complaining about being unfairly treated, stop for a moment and have a think about how many warnings you have received, and what they have been for. If you've received multiple warnings or suspensions for the same behaviour, there's a very, very easy way to make it stop happening...

I've had three warnings.
One of which was for spam, one of which was for telling a user to shut up (for the record, he told me to shut up and I said "NO YOU" or something else tongue-in-cheek like that) and one for being impolite to a stupid person. I learned that just because a person is stupid doesn't mean it's okay to be an donkey-cave to them. Forest Gump was stupid, and he was still awesome.

Yeah! These top-cat executives get far too much pay whilst the common man is left in the dirt! They blame the victim; ride around in their CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORTs; live in spacious Likto Industrial Towers and Space Corridors and they never once think about the small man outside who has nothing!
The tyrannical rule of these 20-foot tall female Chaos Grey Knights must come to an end! They must be brought before the courts to face justice for their crimes of theft against the men, women and children who live without so that these monstrosities might have another course for their opulent tables. They feast upon fine food and wine whilst we starve!
No more, I say! It is time we take a stand against the rich getting richer!
