Infiltrating Hawwa'
Through the looking glass

With the rise of Mechwarrior Online, me and a buddy decided to dive into the battletech tabletop game. It's good fun I must say, and this last time we played it was me and him against his brother. Well, his brother get's this massive rise out of playing clan, while me and his brother don't really care that much, so it was a clan vs inner sphere game. His madcat...and something else (heavy and assault classes) vs my two commandos and king crab, and my friends Marauder and...something else.
Anyways, the lights never did anything. Well i take that back, I scored a whopping 2 damage with an AC2 once, and I think a barrage of rocket launcher fire did like 9 pts of damage, but besides that they walked forward and got blown away by clan guns. Took roughly one shot each to basically take them out of the game. So fast forwarding things, we had clanboy down to one mech that was pretty banged up, while we had my king crab and all my friends mechs. So he decides to death from above the marauder. Friend takes shots, doesn't do much. I manage to take off a leg while the mech was in mid air with a shot from my AC20. Once the clan mech pulled off a successful death from above attack, it subsequently fell over from lack of leg. At that point, me and my friend decided that there was only one way to end this match, and it was by putting the boots to our opponent, medium style. I kicked his remaining leg for a whopping 20 pts of damage, ripping the armor off, and my friend in his rage for sustaining a death from above attack, rolled double 6's to hit, and double 6's for location.
And promptly kicked the mech in the face, ending the battle.
Good times. So anyone else have any interesting stories?

No specific Battletech stories, but here's a battle report for a scenario we played using "Mech Attack!" rules, rebased Mechwarrior figs and the BT universe.
http://chicagoskirmish.blogspot.com/2012/05/battle-for-addicks-mech-attack-battle.html
We based it loosely on BT cannon, specifically a fight for a factory that might have taken place during the trial of annihilation between Nova and Spirit cats in the year 3136.

MY buddy and myself, were play off the wall mech designs. My buddy's assault mech had no ranged weapons, (basically a large shield and a sword) and I had my flea a medium mech that could jump nine (if i remember correctly), and only had small pulse lasers a about 19 of them! We rolled a canyon map, and I spent the game hopping from cover to cover. Jumping behind him and lighting him up rolling 19 shots got old quick, it ended when I miss calculated and his TSM(?) kicked in and caught me. It was the first and last blow that he landed, off with his head she said.

Had just introduced one of my kitchen managers to the game he is a avid 40k player and wanted to see why we hadnt bothered playing a game of 40k with him even though the two of my buddies and myself all owned armies( we are just done with it ) haha. So its a lance on lance battle kill em all kinda game him and one of our veteran players took two mechs each and me and the other friend two mechs a piece as well.By around turn 6 we relized he had just been hiding his Victor in heavy woods. i decide to run a lure on him with a standard Crab mech he goes crabbing of course and jumps out of the woods to pursue fails any shots he has (just ran to damn fast plus his jump) I turn around run right up to him next turn and fire two large lasers both head shot never even had a chance

Battletech was my introduction to the world of miniatures gaming. As flawed as the game is, it still holds a special place to me.
As far as light mechs go...run them, always run them, and keep the range open. Modifiers will almost guarantee you dont get hit. Then when the time is right close in from behind and strike, them run away.

I've been playing so long I could fill pages of stories. Some quick and amusing ones:
Start of a giant melee, Jenner runs up to a Penetrator, both sides miss all their weapons fire. Jenner kicks, Penetrator fails the PSR, falls on head, fails seat belt check, fall unconscious. Jenner shoots face off next turn while pilot sleeps.
RPG group in lights and mediums ambushed by a Thunder Hawk (3 Gauss Rifles). Raven pilot attacks BY ITSELF, and kills the Hawk while only taking 2 medium lasers hits. And the Raven never shot it in the back.
Clan Behemoth pilot gets shot with LB-10X cluster shot late in the fight. One hits the head, one sets off a Gauss explosion. Behemoth pilot falls unconscious, falls off hill (miniatures rules), sets off the OTHER Gauss rifle, and suffers an automatic pilot hit for falling while unconscious. 6 pilot hits in one round, while only taking one point of damage to the head.

I'm in the same boat... after playing Mechwarrior 2 on the Mac back in middle school, my brother and I discovered the board game and pooled our allowances to buy it. It was the introductory set, with the cardboard mechs and paper mats. I still have it to this day, and I use the paper cutouts as loaner forces when teaching a new player the ropes
