So, after discussing on various forums on the web, I came to the conclusion that some of the starter of Warmahordes aren't really great (like Circle and TB), and even worse, some are inexistant (Scyrah, Mercs, Minions) . So, if you could change some of these starter (including only a warcaster/warlock and warjack/warbeast), what would it look like (making it arond 10-13 pts). Here's what I would like for Menoth (just as an example) :

12/15
Feora, Priestess of the Flame (*6pts)
* Repenter (4pts)
* Castigator (8pts)
* Crusader (6pts)

Outflanking

Aiming for 11 points, because that's where most of the boxes are...

Trollbloods- 11pt
pDoomshaper
Dire Troll Mauler
Troll impaler
Swamp Troll

The Mauler finally gives trolls some real hitting power in hand-to-hand, while Doomy gives some nice beast support, and more points to play with.

Mercs (Syndicate/Covenant): 11pt
Captain Damiano
Mangler
Vanguard
Talon

Big thing here is that Damiano, unlike Magnus, can be used as a base for either Highborn Covenent or Four-Star Syndicate. Other than that, it is really just an assortment of warjacks with a melee bruiser and a total cost of 11 points.

Gorax

Why in the bloody blue blazes would you give anyone TWO what was THE most worthless warbeast of MkI when they will rarely run one? Even in MkII the expanded abilities of the Argus really don't make it worth taking more than one of. Even if you only wanted cheap warbeasts for fury and planned to go infantry heavy the Gorax is usually your better bet. But combine all three models? Boom! One beat stick, one tool box, one versatile light whose animus turns the Feral into a murdermachine. Perfect.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

Yeah, the Legion one really just needs someone NOT Lylyth.

Of course, that is kind of the "official" starter for Thornfall if you are doing the starter league (I forget what it's called).

Perhaps it's an utterly different topic, but how about the new 2-player starter set with only 1 regular Argus and a Winter Argus, is that the new, new Battle-box?

I'd still like a Gorax as well.

For Mercs:

Gorten
Driller
Gunner
Gunner
Gunner

Ohh wait, they had that one before and it was one of the best even though only being 8 points and having 4 jacks on a very low FoC caster.

Drake McBain
Nomad
Mule
Talon

12 points and the 3 basic, non-privateer, non-rhulic jacks. Although the talon is often loathed, if they remake a non-privateer human box it will probably have one.
That and the fluff on him in the Merc book had him with a nomad, mule and a talon.

BUT the box casters tend to be straight forward, so the most straight forward casters mercs have is Damiano (Ashlynn being close 2nd) so I would guess it would most likely be:

Damiano
Nomad
Mule
Talon

I hope nobody was surprised about that jack loadout. As I already explained above: 12 points and the 3 basic, non-privateer, non-rhulic jacks.

Yeah, cuz giving her +2 Arm (and no one else) is better for her... :shakes head sadly: They should just replace her with Grayle in the starter box. At least then you'd have a good start on his Tier.

For Trolls:
Grim
Earthborne
Mauler

That combo puts two of the best beasts together in the same box for new players to have fun with. From a marketing standpoint it isn't the best to include the EBDT, but from a player perspective, it is totally amazing. Plus they could make the Mauler the kit for the Bomber and Blitzer option.

Ossrom
Avalancher
Rockram

It is rather shooty but with the feat, critical decapitation, energizer, and assault on the rockram it has some melee bite too. Ossrum has such a great supportive spell list and a straightforward feat he seems like a very good caster to learn with.

Someone mentioned "Bring back Gorten"

From a person who picked that battlebox up on a whim... YES Bring back Gorten!

For Serious bang for the buck...
1 Warcaster
3 Light Warjacks
1 Heavy Warjack

It was an excellent battlebox for beginners. High arm, lots of interesting boxes, utility, simple rules. With rockwall forced the gamer to learn about terrain, obstacles, and focus allocation. That box makes you make some difficult choices. Its great for learning!

I don't think duplicates are a good idea for a starter set (lone exception: Shredders, and maybe not even then). Reason being, you almost never use duplicates in-game.

Trolls: pMadrak, Mauler, Slag

Circle: pKaya, Feral, Gorax, Argus

Skorne: pMorg, Gladiator, Savage, Brute

Sour, why do you think a Slag Troll should be in the battlebox? I'm curious.

I have to think that Madrak really benefits from having the Impaler's animus to tap. I do agree that it should probably be a heavy and a light instead of three lights (what were they thinking??).

I know Troll lights are like some factions' heavies, but that still doesn't make up for the fact that they don't get any heavies in the battlebox. At the very least, Troll players should start with a Mauler, not the kit. The kit introduces complicated models in the Bomber and Blitzer gameplay wise.
