Basically would you be upset if someone had multiple weapons modeled on the same model that could never be taken at once? My two specific examples of this would be a Wraithlord with not only the Wraithsword but also two Heavy Weapons (keeping Sword for looks almost exclusively) or a BT Marshal with a Storm Shield, Lighting Claw and Thunder Hammer (with the intent of having the ability to switch out between the two in different games). Would you be upset and not play against this due to it being confusing (even if pointed out in deployment which weapons they actually have) or would you be OK with it? My WL is already modeled that way, do not want to model my Marshal yet until more answers come back.

I'm guessing most people will not be OK with it, but it is hard to magnetize Lighting Claw/Thunder Hammer combo.

It would be confusing, but as long as you wrote its loadout on a card and set the card in front of the wraithlord (Or BT Marshall), I would not have an issue with it in a friendly game.

The Tournament scene is the flipside though.

In a Tournament setting, this would not be ok. In a friendly game, as long as you can tell me what a model has at any given time, I'd be fine with it (especially since a lot or my nids are not WYSIWYG).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Thanks, still not sure what I want to do but this does help. I have never been to a tournament and do not quite plan to as my gaming group is mostly friends that got into this together. Thanks again!

Don't overmodel... having both helps no one. If you want to change around and friends will be fine with overmodel, they will also be fine with 'proxies' in most situations.

If they are fine with proxies, then model it so it is legal in the configuration you like most then proxy the other configs. Then at least if you need to play a WYSIWYG event you have some options opposed to a model who can't be used.

I would guess by gluing a bonesword arm to each of the 4 arm sockets

When I posted I thought this was the bonesword thread. Not the over-modeled thread. Oops.

Just magnetize the weapon sets. You get to switch them out whenever you want to and having a backpack full of weapons is just being sloppy and lazy.

But how do they work? Joking aside yeah magnets are a very good way of doing things. Another more silly way is to buy two (or more) of the same model and have them each have the different options you would want to try modeled and switch between them. That is the not so cheap way, but that's coming from the guy who bought 12 extra Canonesses just for the Inferno Pistol bit.

The model is the Boarding Marine FW Games Day 2011, and it's pretty hard to magnetize it unless I just go all out and lop his arm off...than get another arm...somehow. Really though I think I am just not going to give him anything but his current LC until the new BT comes out. As for the WL...the sword is to cool not to over-model. Don't care, gonna do it. :3

When in doubt, ask your opponent.

If you intend to go to the tournament scene just prepare another model that is modeled correctly (assuming you can do so money wise, models can be expensive). If an opponent has a problem and wants/demands 100% WYSIWYG then use the correct model, if they are cool with the one that has the cooler 'appearance' then use that.

This can happen when someone models something for looks and they need a 'stand in' in order to satisfy their opponent or to rectify other issues. (Typically because the base is larger than allowed or the model is taller than it should be, a stand in of the correct proportions/gear can usually clear that up).

for one off models or models otherwise identical in terms of how they don't follow wysiwyg I think it's fine, so the Marshall wouldn't bother me, nor would the Wraithlord if you only fielded a single one.

If you had two Wraithlords with both heavy weapons and a sword on both of them, I would expect either both to have two heavy weapons and no sword, or both to have 1 sword and 1 identical heavy weapon, if you were mixing and matching then it's getting to the point where I would be reluctant to play against them.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I have quite a few models with 1/8" or smaller magnets on their backs, off center, between pauldron and generator. I then put an opposite pole magnet on things like a TH, PG, Melta, etc. They can then carry all those things are their back and it looks completely natural.

I'd recommend heading in that direction. Magnetizing an arm is pretty simple. Got to be a dozen step by step and/or YouTube videos out there on that.

I agree with what seems to be the consensus: it might get a little too confusing in this case.

There are times when "overmodelling" is ok (modelling krak grenades on your Guardsmen when you haven't paid for them, that sort of thing), but when it comes to something big and obvious like a model's heavy weapon(s), then it matters IMHO.

That said, if you had some way to make it absolutely clear about what the model has (I like the earlier suggestion of using a piece of card with the wargear listed clearly) and was consistent with the representation throughout the army, then I'd be fine with it, both in friendlies and in tournaments.

This has nothing to do with the post, I am just curious what is an Ultramarine Alpha Company in your Signature block??
