hey guys, im after an imperial fists novel to read but im having a few problems

Heres the order in which im heard them and the problem ive been having with them

Space Marine - Ian Watson...... CANNOT find this book for the life of me. heard really good things about it but its impossible to come across

Sons of Dorn - Chris Roberson .... heard its terrible. seriously soul crushingly bad.... would put me off fists, or is that just overreacting?

Phalanx - Ben Counter (Features the Fortress Monastery).... is this from a soul drinkers point of view?, ive heard its a good book but with the fists being on the receiving end?

Harlequin - i dont know the author - ive not really heard much about this 1 at all...

Storm of Iron - Graham McNeill.... again from a iron warriors POV, but i heard this promotes the fists quite well

IF you guys have any imput on any of these books id really appreciate it! thanks in advance

I have Sons of Dorn and stopped after chapter 2. It's in my "Take to half-priced books" pile. It's horrible.

I haven't read any of those other books.

You can purchase Space Marine by Ian Watson here. It sounds really bad.

Ahhh brilliant! Thanks for the link to the black library! I'm surprised you've heard bad things about it? I've only ever heard good things. I always feel as though you should really know your armies background before you collect, really helps you get graps with your army

The only things I've heard about it was what I read JUST NOW on that link.

You're certainly welcome!

You have heard wrong, my friend. Space Marine is a fantastic piece of science fiction. It may be "heretical" but that doesn't make any less great. Read it if you get the chance.

And some, I assume, are good people."

Space Marine also has nothing to do with the modern 40k.
Also, I believe it goes into great detail into just how exactly the 'waste management processes' work in power armour.

Sons of Dorn won't put you off of Imperial Fists. It will however mean you never want to dirty your hands by fielding Lysander. Actually, any story that features Lysander pretty much proves that he is as fatal to the marines around him as the enemy is.

He does usually win though.

"Space Marine" by Ian Watson is intentionally quite homoerotic and is not reflective of the current background for the Imperial Fists-- or indeed 40k at all! However, it's certainly an amusing read, if only to see just how crazy things were back in the day.

Also second book of Watson's "Inquisition Wars" trilogy features IFs and main character of "Space Marine" , including IN/IF action against Eldar...but background is really old-version - like polymorphined non-psychic Assasin which pretends to be Eldar TO ELDAR

"Phalanx"..main heroes are Soul Drinkers, but book can be of some interest to IF fan - it's mostly NOT SD v IF, actually IF were shown favourably enough, simpleminded though. BTW to really get grips with this book, "Deniyathos" side book is must-read.

Without passion we'd be truly dead.

Space Marine by Ian Watson is probably my favorite book written in the 40k universe... I think that is back when the 40k fluff and background was actually good. Not to mention around the time when 40k was ACTUALLY a sci-fi grim and dark story. back then, 40k to me is considered a very horrifying universe.. now it's just this stupid golden age of huge gold and silver Aquilas and WAAAY to much emphasis on the religions, heros and crap, rather than the dark sci-fi aspect it had. It also didn't mind to have a few damn jokes here and there.

Sons of Dorn is no where near as bad as some people make it out to be- Simple, entertaining enough, shows IF in a reasonable light and is easy to read if your not looking for anything too detailed.

on the flip side of that of course is if you are looking for the usual details expected in black library books, you may find yourself wanting with this one.

also it could be mistaken as an up to date version of 'Space Marine' due to it again following the recruitment process!

I would say read them both and see they both have flaws and are very different in terms of timeline(or relevant fluff timeline) but again are two very good books
