I used to like Nickelback, and still catch myself singing along to them on the radio. Of course, now I hate them for the lead singer's upcoming nuptials...damn you Kroeger!! I wanted her!!
Also like Creed, Avril (duh, given previous statement), Alkaline Trio, and who the hell actually hates Blink 182? Couldn't get into Angels and Airwaves. Just not my thing.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Hey! I don't hate Queen! I like them a lot, I just don't feel like listening to it all the time and seeing stupid pictures on facebook comparing them to modern music!
I do hate the boss though. I gave his "greatest hits" a once over, and I was left scratching my head a bit. I don't get it.

The Velvet Underground are the iconic 'I'm cool because I listen to them' band. I like them a lot, but they're kind of the opposite of the thread.
Mannahnin wrote:Now THAT's in the spirt of the thread. Well done, that man.
I can't think of anything I LOVE that's widely reviled. I guess Blink 182 and Marilyn Manson come in for some hate. Or Duran Duran?
I think we need to alert Lego, because there is clearly a bug in Dakka. Anytime a music thread starts in the OT, the subject appears to a lot of people to read "List cool bands that you like," no matter what the OP is actually about. It's a bizarre bug, but it's the only explanation I can think of.
Automatically Appended Next Post: As for me, it's hard to untangle stuff I like that's simply embarrassing from the stuff that people actually hate.
As a rule, I wholeheartedly love post grunge, even the stuff that people are pretty done with. Seven Mary Three, STP, Collective Soul, Dada.

Yeah but just because I think a band is cool doesn't mean the general public will think it is even if it's a critically acclaimed piece of work.

Yeah but just because I think a band is cool doesn't mean the general public will think it is even if it's a critically acclaimed piece of work, but you're right Velvet Underground isn't really hated, to the average Joe it's just weird music.

Back when they first came out, slipknot. I got no end of crap for liking them. Fast forward 2 years to the Iowa album, they go a tad commercial send everyone that slated me was walking round in slipknot hoodies. Darned hypocrites
Yes, yes, I know, just pass me the gun and I'll go behind the barn.
Make sure there's a second round in the magazine, I'll be right behind you.
I enjoy Nickelback, I'm also a big fan of Nightwish (going to see them this coming friday ) and a lot of people around here are berks and can't enjoy symphonic heavy metal.
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long
I cop no end of gak for being a Phil Collins fan. I also love Billy Joel and have seen him live. Apart from that... Neil Sedaka (seriously 'Laughter in the Rain' is one of my favourite songs), Duffy, Cheryl Cole, LMFAO, JLS, Luther Vandross, Kelly Rowland and Sade are all artists that I have attracted abuse for liking, though I guess that's just the circles I move in. Hipster douchebag circles, that is.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Incidentally, some girl once did a sexy striptease for me, with Nickelback as the soundtrack. Completely ruined it for me.

I enjoyed Tarja's vocals, I like Annette's but with Nightwish I'm there for the music over the vocals nine times out of ten. Tuomas is a genius.

I assume the ones with the hilariously misspelt "My Plaque" on the back of them. Apparently Slipknot did a song about tooth decay...
Anyways... On with the topic at hand. Hollywood Undead. Only met 1 other guy that likes them, most people either fall into the category of either having never heard of them or disliking them. I like FOB too, much like the OP I got a lot of mileage out of their albums. I like My Chemical Romance (but only from Danger Days onwards, there's a few select tracks I like on their previous albums but in general I don't like them). Ill Nino, love em. Never met anyone that views them (much like HU) without either a "who?" or looks at them with disdain that they're still around after a decade or so. Lastly, as this is one I simply cannot fathom, maybe once again; I'm talking to the wrong people who only watch X-factor or some other gak. But why does no-one I've ever met seem to either dislike or not know who the hell Skindred are?

I'm the exact opposite on MCR, only like about 2 tracks on Dangers Days
Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

Skindred seems to be a really niche band... I freaking love it though.

I quite like some of Dean Martin's stuff, especially his version of " You're nobody till somebody loves you".
... Oh, whilst I wouldn't say I was a fan as such ny parents played a lot of Byran Adam's early stuff -- well prior to the Robin Hood movie and and that -- and a fair bit of "Big Country", so some of their songs straight away take me back to the distant and, generally, happy past/childhood. It's almost worrying exactly how well one can recall lyrics from songs heard ...what... over 20 years ago ?!
..oh to be young again !

EDIT: Oh, I would also say pretty much all Black Metal bands I listen to, but most people haven't even heard of them, so I'm not sure that they even count.

Oh! I have a good one. I still think Limp Bizkit (at least the first two albums) are pretty good. And I quite enjoy Skrillex.

Oh, and to the Nickelback fans: I dunno how much airplay they get in your neck o' the woods, but in Vancouver there was a 6 or 7 year period of time where every 3rd or 4th song (no joke) on most of the local radio stations was a Nickelback song. Also, there is quite a lot of hate for them considering they sound like a gakky bar band, put on an absolutely terrible live show, and somehow became popular despite forgoing the standard sex-drugs-&-the-devil content of standard rock songs in favour of singing about issues with his father, and then went on to pave the way for two identical-sounding bands, Default and Theory of a Deadman, each slightly crappier than the one before it. Ugh.
So anyway, if you like 'em, well, to each their own. But if you're wondering why there's so much hate for Nickelback, this is just a few of the reasons.
The funny thing is, I actually used to like Nickelback prior to the release of Silver Side Up.

I like Theory of a Deadman FWIW....
This is one of the main reasons Nickelback are so despised in the UK.
Watch if you dare. The massive DFS ad campaign that was like, every other ad for months on end playing "Rockstar" over and over again.

There's also the fact that every single one of their songs sound exactly the same. Put all of their music on a single playlist, and then listen to it. You won't be able to tell where one song ends and the next begins.
