Have the EJBs been repacked now with the smaller flight bases, like the ones DE Reavers come with ? I ask because I recently played against an Eldar player fielding a Seer Council on Jetbikes and all of the models were on the smaller bases. If not legal, how do you explain to an opponent the models have to be remounted ?

I don't know wherever the kit has changed in regards to base size, but if it's not legal, just point it out to him in the rulebook.

Note that the Rulebook has changed it's stance to be a little more forgiving of different base sizes. Regardless, it's entirely possible that his models actually came with that size base; Eldar Jetbikes have been notoriously inconsistent with ther included bases over the many years of their lifetime.

And your opponent doesn't 'have' to do anything, he can model his mandollies how he wants. Simply ask him if those were the bases supplied with the model. If they are, then I suggest you drop the issue. If they aren't, then you can just request that he uses the base size that was supplied with the model, or simply refuse to play him.

Models and Base Sizes
The rules in this book assume that models are mounted on the base they are supplied with. Sometimes, a player rnay have models in his collection on unusually modelled bases. Some models aren't supplied with a base at all. In these cases (which are, in all fairness, relatively few and far between), you should always feel free to mount the model on a base of appropriate size if you wish, using models of a similar type as guidance.

By this wording so long as the model came with the base it is legal.

And due to GW's inconsistancies you will have to take his word that they are the bases they came with.

And honestly, the base size really doesn't matter in the long run.

I tend to mount my Council on the large flying bases and the regular old GJBs on small flying bases just to tell them apart - no one has seemed to mind so far as every jetbike that I've bought have come with large flying bases.

Over the years the jetbikes have been packaged with both small and large flight bases, so either is fine really. If you buy them retail they come with Large bases now, however most people buy their's second hand without flight bases at all lol.

I personally use small flight bases because they look better.

Way back in 2nd ed they initially came with hexagonal flight bases, before GW introduced the round ones.

Could the OP, or anybody say why this was an issue? I'm not sure why this would be a problem.

Thanks.

Smaller bases allow you to DS closer together (assuming the EJB is able to DS in the near future as implied by the BRB) and minimise chance of scattering into enemy units/impassable terrain, also allows you to squeeze through area terrain that is close together without ending your move in either one.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Also makes you more vulnerable to blasts and templates, since smaller bases result in less spread from coherency, and grants you less 'free' movement from direction changes..

Ah I see. I didn't think it was a win/win situation.

Thanks.
