The painting's awesome, but I think he's a bit too bright for a Night Lord.

The photos are to light imo. But I think IRL it looks better. If only I had good photoshop skillz!

That's amazing. I love the rich red on the cape, it offsets the Night Lord armour nicely. Wish I could paint that well.

"The uniforms of the Imperial guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. the principle is that what the enemy cannot see, he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine's armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear." -The codex Astartes

I have to say that you did quite an exquisite job on cape, very impressive.

I'm wondering if you started with Exile Blue and highlighted with Cygnar blue highlight? I'm thinking of doing this myself with my Night Lords because I don't feel like buying the kantor blue triad of colors XD

Looks great, though the back of the cape looks... shiny to me. Might just be lighting or the camera though.

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. I think that's a combination of Khador Red Base's finish (kind of a weird mix between satin and gloss) and the lighting. At least, I assume it's Khador Red Base. It could be Skorne Red that has been glazed...

Great work. I disagree with the colors you chose on the cape however. He almost looks like one of the good guys.

There is no glaze on it at all, its the photo and the autoadjustment of dakka that makes it so bright. When I finished anothermodel perhaps I could upload better pictures

thought about improvments on this, not that I'm going to repaint it though. Some of the things I'd like to to different on other characters/models is:

1. All red cape, same back as front (more NL'ish).
2. Red power weapons instead of Blue/Green (so that it not blends together with the rest of the model and stands out a bit more).
2. Not so much white on the bone areas (to me it stands out just a bit to much).

What do you think?

I really like the red of the cloak! Good contrast

Betwixt and Between's Bros 4-1-3 (1750pts)
Strike Force Icarus 24-2-15 (2000pts)
Prince Hiccup and his Merry Band of Caledor: 27-4-5 (4000pts)

I actually did use those two colors. But I highligthed my way up from Cygnar to. The mix was Cygnar + the lighter blue (the GW Ice Blue equivallent (can't remember the name)). As for the shades, its all blue wash from GW, and extensively I might add.
So the base was Exile Blue and then the first highlights were Cygnar followed by brighter mixes. Btw. I always wash ofer the final highlight with a very light wash to make the colors blend together nicely.

That's some lovely work, right there.

I would echo the thought that the sword is a little too close to the armour colour... it would be nice for it to stand out more, but at the moment it justy kind of blends in to his armour.

The armour is fantastic, though. he looks awesome as a Night Lord.

And I wouldn't change the cape. He's a commander, he's supposed to stand out a little, even if he is a Night Lord And it creates a wonderful contrast from the dark and busy armour.

Looks gorgeous. I am starting a Night Lords army also, and it is nice to see others with similar painting skill showing off their work. Really good looking, and keep up the good work, I'll keep checking back to see what you have finished up. Are you going to paint the cultist also? What colors are you going to use for them?

thanks man for the nice words. Actually, this will not be in my main army anymore as I wanted to finish up some models faster as this takes up to much time with this painting technique. Im going for Iron warriors, but now that I think of it I could use this thread to post the pictures of them too. The Lord was fun to paint, but Im not going to use him in my army. Sorry to dissapoint I love NL though.
Im actually using cultists in my army as Iron warriors uses them extensively fluffwize. But they will have MoN so I'll make them a but desease:y.
If I were you painting cultists for a NL ary I would go with a blue theme all over them and leather/natural colors to go with that. No lightning on them IMO.
