okay so,
I've just started putting together my first Codex Blood Angels army(I used to play codex space marines).

I have given one of my Assault sergeants a powerfist and bolt pistol with melta bombs(the rest of the squad is 9 marines/2 with flamers) all with jump packs, and i'm now thinking what was the point if the sergeant is going to die before he gets to use it.

In fact why would anyone give a sergeant a powerfist now in light of the new rules. It seems like they have gone from THE weapon of choice to something nobody would want.I don't really want to change the model so i'm wondering if any of you good people have any thoughts on how to use him???

My other squad is the same but the sergeant has a pair of lightning claws.

Guess I should also mention I'm returning to the hobby after a ten year absence.

Put a character in there. That way, challenges can be taken by the sarge or the character. A chappo wouldn't be too bad, and sanguinary priests also spring to mind.

If not- Rip 'is arm off and stick a new one on. Or is an old metal one piece model?

P.S Welcome back bro

Its my old plastic assault sergeant and I,ve already replaced his chainsword with the power fist before i read the new rules, just wanted to make him more characterful.

I was thinking a chaplain or sanguinary priest, thanks(probably the sanguinary priest).

I don't play BA, so I don't know the costs, but I lean much more towards the priest. Cheaper if I'm correct, and FNP adds more than rerolls. Assault marines aren't "good" in CC (there are plenty of CC units that can wipe the floor with them), and rerolling attacks on the charge won't be as useful as FNP whilst the priest lives- nor as expensive (if i am correct!)

Also, don't priests use a HQ or elite slot that isn't part of the FOC? Even more incentive

sanguinary priests are 50pts
75pts with a jump pack
they are also an elites choice

I was just thinkin...... If i arm a sanguinary priest with a powerfist as well, dont challenge and decline any challenges at least one of the power fists should get to strike(hopefully)
what do you think???

yes. You will pay 25p to guarantee a powerfist slap. Do you really think its worth it? You could just eat the challenge with the priest, although you will lose FNP.

I mean, I see your point, but deep down I don't feel good about doubling the cost of a fist to ensure it slaps, plus the 75p body to boot.

Look into giving the Priest an Axe instead. You get more attacks and he's cheaper too.

I'm sure a sanguinary priest cant take a power axe??? only a powerfist (25pts)or power sword/ lightning claw(15pts)????

shame replace the blade for a scythe blade and it would be very characterful for my army!!!

or do the new rules count references to power sword as power weapon now???

The SM FAQ says to change all "power sword" wordings to "power weapon", and I think it is the same for BA.

You run the PF sarg in the back of the unit. Many times at I4 fight phase he is out of range or at least further dxown the list of casualties. Also he gets a 4+ look out sir. If he is in the back when its time for I1 then he gets a 3 inch pile in.

Personally i dont think the PF is worth it but not for any of the reasons you stated.

Nah take the fist! Vehicles, AP2, looks good, dont ruin the model. As above bring an artificier storm shield captain with thunderhammer to take challenges and your SGT brings up the rear to slam the unit.

Other assault squads can avoid nasty characters that can challenge and aim for a charge on a more appropriate target.

Take a priest in the squad, equip him how you want, refuse the challenge with him allowing sarge to swing fist. Problem solved.

Challenges do not work like that.

Indeed they don't. The enemy gets to nominate who doesn't swing.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Negative. Put yourself in the opponents shoes
I issue a challenge- Assault squad declines
Do I choose the Pfist not to swing, or the Paxe?
hmmmmm. Difficult choice!

Ok tks didnt know

Maybe sacrificial SGT w nothing to take a challenge so heaver hitters can destroy the opponents unit

In which case yep rip the fists off

Unless you happy to sacrifice a priest leaving the fist to wreck destruction
