I stopped playing and collecting right after they released the tyranids faq in 5th ed as it pretty much amde the 2k pt army i bought complete garbage.

Ive been thinking about starting to play again but I'm wondering how eldar have fared in 6th ed, as far as their level of competitiveness and a bit curious about nids.

My eldar armies were 2k-2.5k pts i had a jetseer council army fully meched and a fluffier biel-tan army.

My Eldar do fine, some ups and some downs going to 6th. Our MC's got better overall, our vehicles are a bit weaker. Tyranids seem fine when I play against them but I have no personal experience.

My own observations and opinions here but:

Eldar: Useless.....even as allies they are fairly useless because you can get the same stuff for cheaper somewhere else. I'd shelf them until they get a codex that doesn't suck.

Nids: Different. They gained a lot (especially flying MCs, Winged Tyrants and Harpies are AWESOME. However they lost a lot as well. Personally I think the Cons out weigh the Pros and that they are worse off in 6th than they were in 5th.

Please note that this is all from a competitive perspective. Nids and Eldar simply cannot perform well in tournaments from what I've seen and played. Nids, however, are still leagues ahead of Eldar.

Thats sad in 5th jetseer armies could still win tournies with a bit of luck and proper execution. =/

Going to wait for more input but if eldar did get shafted even worse than their codexs age left them in 5th then i wont bother picking 40k up again most likely.

And yet, my brother (a nid player) and I (an eldar player) are as of yet undefeated... And I play footdar without an avatar and I use dark reapers, and wraithguard. It's all about knowing how to use em properly, and you wont get a more satisfying win. In fact, in my FLG, people don't believe me when I say Eldar are under powered compared to most armies. Only enemy i struggle against is newcrons.

Mechdar Eldar are pretty dead, I'll give your, and jetseer council isn't as good with the nerf to witchblades, but singing spears sill give S9. I used to play mechdar, but our tanks just cant survive anymore, so I traded tanks for way more infanty, but I still use a falcon for AP goodness. Fighting a guard parking lot is also a pain though.

Nids, I love this edition. With the rules changed so you no longer takes wounds from being fearless and losing a combat, just swarm things with guants. Swarmlord is OP as ever and will destroy most things in a challenge, and you can make him even better with biomancy! Stealer lists are dead with the new outflank rules, but ymgarls are still pretty awesome.

And that's entirely fair. I play nids as well (currently selling my army). And at my FLG I do very well with them (about a 75/25 W-L). But he asked about competitve. In my definition that means NOVA, Feast of Blades, or Battle for Salvation style tournys. I do well at the FLGS....but there is no way in hell I'd bring my nids to a tourny.

I've seen Eldar and Nids win the occasional tournament game....but never seen them place in the top 5.

You've highlighted a lot of the Pros for Nids. Though I'll have to disagree....Stealer lists have sucked since 3rd edition. As I said, nids did gain a lot....but so did everyone else....and nids have a lot of cons with the edition change that have screwed them out of any competitive event.

Yeah i have a good bit of eldar infantry but i also have 14 wave serpents (some for apoc obviously) 2 falcons and tons of jetbikes.

Id rather not spend anymore on gw things if theyre going to make my previous purchases worthless to force new sales as i already have nearly 40k points of 40k models counting my superheavies and apoc stuff.

Competitive is different for different people, I don't go to big tourneys, but I rank high in local ones, and amongst people at my FLGS who do go to tournaments. And i find it fun and challenging to play, at that , at the core, is what's most important for the OP

Yeah, something I see big tournament players always misunderstand is for the vast, vast majority of people playing 40k is that 'competitive' means 'how will it to at my local store or amongst friends'. For the majority of people playing, 40k is a local game, not a national game and very definitely not a global game. Travelling to big tournaments is something some people do, but the majority don't.
