Hey all, painted this guy up for a friend's Deathwatch character. It isn't very apparent that he is Deathwatch from the photos but his shoulder is one of the metal Deathwatch ones and the Thunder Hammer from Coteaz has the Inquisition symbol on it.

I also used the Chaperhouse true scale torso and legs as well as Forgeworld Templar Shoulder pad (terminator sized) and Storm Shield.

Thanks for looking!

Beautiful model man! Very impressive indeed.
The only bit of "criticism" I have, is that, as you mentioned, the deathwatch shoulder armor is rather hard to see since it's hidden behind the shield.

Although I love the glow effect of the eyes....it's blasphemy that they are green and not red!

I would like to see the deathwatch shoulder pad, but he looks great! My one complaint is that the highlights are a bit too subtle for my tastes. The black looks a bit flat in some areas.

Epic. Black templars look so good, and this does justice to their image as the crusaders of the Imperium!

He looks like an utter badass. Love the OSL around the eyes.

Thanks for the compliments and criticisms. Yes the Shoulder is pretty much covered up, the storm shield was so big it was hard to position and this was the best pose I could come up with that didnt make it look awkward. I had the shield angled horizontally at one point but the purity seals look as if they are defying gravity!

Brothervord, I am actually a heretic in disguise. I always put my cultist robe on before I paint and speak in tongues as I mix my paints.

Darthbob, yeah the grey hardlining is quite simplistic but I figured it is at least clean. Tabletop standard is good enough here. I hope this guy survives as my friend is heavy handed with his minis lol!

I wish my tabletop standard was like your's Asuryan

Was that your first attempt at source lighting? I haven't seen it on any of your other stuff. I would love to know how you went about doing it...

I don't know. Knowing your skill I consider it as a shame.. I'm sorry.

I do really like the model but I can't stand the simple/basic grey lining.
You invested time on the glowing effect with very good results so why not the same effort on the armor lining?

I do not reply on meh models abitually but this, of course, isn't a meh model and that's why I'm a little disappointed of his "still not completed" look.

With a very little time more this could had been judged far better than the basic table top level. You know, I'm talking about the little difference between a very good model and a promising model.

I would had liked to write a very good model but it's just nice to me.

Thanks brother M4cr0, yeah it's the first "successful" attempt. Ive tried and failed many times!

I started with a dark green (like Dark Angels green, Suprise!) cover the lense area entirely and then above and below the lenses extending as far as you want the lighting to go, giving the edges a black glaze so they dont look like they end abruptly (You can use a watered down black wash for this just put a small amount on your brush so it wont run everywhere and gently brush along the edge of the green layer). I also black washed the lenses entirely so the edges look more defined. Wait for all this to dry!

The midtone used is the equivalent of Snot Green, Cover the lenses but leave the edges untouched so the Dark Angel green is showing. Then do above and below the lenses but this time going only a third of the distance you went the first time.

Scorpion Green is then used to produce a thin highlight on the center of the lenses and a thin line directly above and below the lenses.

Finally a very thin (and short) white line is done in the middle of the lenses making sure to leave the Scorpion Green showing and not cover up the previous layers by using too much.

I understand where you are coming from, I would love to have spent more time on this one but I have a huge backlog of miniatures to get painted. I guess the glowing eyes I saw as a novelty and a small investment of time to make this a bit more unique, as well as a bit of practice on OSL with a brush. Thanks for looking and your honesty mate. I'll try and spend a bit more time on the next

I love it.
Everything feels right and simple and crisp. The whole simplicity makes the eyes looks very menacing. This is the how I imagined the marines described in the BL books.
