Subject: true scale marines?

im debating true scaling the marines for the iron warriors army i'll be making with the new codex, but im not sure if theyd look right. i'll only have 15 marines, the rest will be about 20-25 cultists, 2 fiends, 2 basilisks, and a bastion. as ive never seen a TS marine in person, im hoping someone here will be able to tell me how theyd look compared to other models. i already know about how theyd look compared to guardsmen and other marines, but not vehicles.
so should i go ahead and do it, or would they just look ridiculous?

It would look even more ridiculous unless you also buy new vehicles. 40k vehicles are already out of scale with the infantry (mostly because all of the plastic infantry models are way bigger than true 28mm), make the infantry even bigger and it's going to be even less plausible that you can fit more than a marine or two into a Rhino. The easier way to do it if you're concerned about scale is to find true 28mm scale cultists which will look properly small next to the heroic-scale marines.

You can true scale vehicles if you want. It's a lot of work, but true scaling or art scaling is already a labor of love. Personally, as it's an imagination-fuelled game, I doesn't bother me at all to put a bigger marine beside his too-small rhino.
If you like the aesthetics of bigger marines, I think the pay-off is there even without changing vehicle sizes.

Whenever I read about "True" Scale Marines, I have a feeling people are referring to some Black Library exaggeration rather than what GW tells us.
The "truth" is obviously malleable.
So ... what size difference exactly are you looking for, OP?

That doesn't really make sense to me. If the whole point of true scale stuff is to improve the realism by making marines their "real" size, isn't it kind of silly to give them vehicles that are now even more out of scale?

I think that whenever you use the cultists and marines alongside each other, the marines being true scale will reinforce there presence on the board. You can clearly see that the marines are bigger because of the reference to your cultists.
However when you true scale your marines, I think you should true scale the marine driven vehicles too, otherwise it would look wonky. If you don't feel like true scaling the vehicles, you can always write lists without marine vehicles. Just restrict yourself to the daemon engines and guard vehicles.
Here on the forum is an article about making the treads of the rhino chassis wider, I think that you can go a long way true scaling your vehicles in this manner. Maybe heighten the top with plasticard.

True scale marines can look great next to other infantry, but as Peregrine has noted, they tend to look really off next to the already poorly scaled vehicles. I got around this by having my truescale force not include any vehicles.
Also, I strongly recommend that, when you do build truescales, that you take the time to focus on bulk. Space Marines are around 7 feet tall (although this varies greatly depending on who is writing the fluff in question), much of their presence in the artwork comes from just how bulky they are. When I was modelling my marines, I aimed to fill as much space as possible with them, rather than simply make them taller.

im not using any tanks from the CSM codex for my iron warriors. im gonna have 2 of the new fiends, 2 basilisks from IG allies, and a bastion.
maybe it would be a better idea if i just waited to do true scale marine for when i get around to doing an alpha legion force. since i wont have a single vehicle, only cultist/guardsman and some marines, i wouldnt have to worry about how theyd look compared to my vehicles.
and i'll admit, i have absolutely no skill at sculpting. best i can do with greenstuff is make models look all nurgly, and occasionally make crappy capes. id just be getting the chapterhouse true scale marines, if i did true scale.
