That the lash FAQ has anything to do with pavane. All the old CSM FAQs are probably going to be deleted next week.

That is irrelevant. GW laid down a framework of what they meant by "moving" an enemy with a power/ability. Read Lash and read Pavane. They are nearly identical wordings on the power. And until they do "delete" those FAQ's they would stand as a precedent for ruling for any other power that made a unit do a "normal move."
The only issue here is the gliding v. swooping issue, which has no precedent.

How about moving it d6 and quit thinking so damn much. You are allowed to run after swooping after all.

Lash is a useful precedent because the two powers do almost the same thing. The only differences being that Lash is a psychic power, has 6" more range, moves the unit 2d6" rather than 1d6", and doesn't work on any vehicles.
But the essential part, moving a unit as if it were your own unit, using all the normal movement rules (except limited to the rolled distance and ignoring difficult) function the exact same.
Pavane: "The Pavane of Slaanesh is a ranged weapon with a range of 18". Roll to hit as normal. If the target unit is hit, it will immediately begin to dance to the tune of the Lord of Excess - the firer can immediately move the target unit up to D6". This movement follows the same rules as a normal move, except it is not slowed by difficult terrain. So, for example, Dangerous Terrain tests are taken as normal, victims may not be moved off the table, out of combat, into impassable terrain or to within 1" of enemy models, and so on."
You follow the same rules as a normal move. This means all the usual and normal rules, exactly like it sounds. When you move a FMC, one of the normal rules is that you must choose a flight mode.

It matters a lot. If you can change my model from swooping to gliding during your turn your odds of hitting it go up tremendously, and you're suddenly able to assault it.
Who cares about running?

While everyone is arguing over the interpretation of the rule, I'm having a great time imagining a swooping, gigantic tyranid monstrosity, suddenly landing and doing a little jig. xD Also, to note, since the FMC was hit by something, wouldn't it have to do a grounding test anyway? In the idea that it starts dancing in mid air, then suddenly goes smacking into the floor or a cliff face or something? xD So yeah, to Rigel, there is a 1/3 chance it's gonna be grounded anyway if it get's hit by this, so Pavane could be used as a means of grounding a flyer. But only on a roll of a 6, with one shot. There are millions of more reliable ways to ground it, so I wouldn't worry too much about pavane

Well, it's a roll of 2+ if you Pavane with an FMC Daemon Prince.

Untill it's clarified, try to think about it in terms of a storyline for the battle, and how it would work. So, your daemon prince is flying along, when suddenly, magically alluring musical pavane music distracts it, so as it flies, it lists off 12 feet (6 inches) from it's original direction, distractedly. It doesn't instantly slam into the floor, then take 6 side-steps while dancing the hokie-cokie And true, Mann, true.

If you roll a 1-2 on the grounding test, he'll certainly hit the dirt.

Indeed, that's when you get the hilarity of a daemon prince suddenly dancing so hard in mid air, that they faceplant.

Quick queztion, doesn't Running say the same thing, follows the normal rules for Movement, but ignores difficult terrain?
If so, Running would be the perfect comparison.
If not, ignore this as I'm at work and cannot check books right now.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
