So, I'm incredibly new to 40K, and I have decided to pick IG as my army. I'm still learning, but I have decided to put together a casual/friendly imperial guard army mainly for use against friends. As I am new I have probably made some mistakes with this list, so I would be happy for people to point them out to me. At the moment I have a CCS on the sprue so i would love some help in what I should do with them. Also, im planning on purchasing a Battleforce soon. Thanks for the help guys, and bear with me, I'm new!
HQ:
CCS - 160 points
- Reg Standard,2x plasma,vox,Krak grenades
- Chimera (ML & HF)
Infantry Platoon:
Platoon Command Squad - 155 points
-Standard, Medi-Pack, Vox Caster, Plasma Gun, Krak Grenades
- Chimera (ML & HF)
Squad 1 - 115 Points
Vox, GL
Chimera (ML & HF)
Squad 2 - 115 Points
Vox, Flamer
Chimera (ML & HF)
Heavy Weapons squad - 105 Points
Lascannon x3
Veteran Squad - 155
-melta x3
-Chimera
FAST ATTACK:
Vendetta 130 points
HEAVY:
LRBT (Hull lascannon and hb sponsons) 185 points.
TOTAL - 1000 POINTS.

Thanks for the help guys, and bear with me, I'm new! HQ: CCS - 160 points - Reg Standard,2x plasma, vox,Krak grenades - Chimera ( ML & HF) pretty decent, I'd remove the vox Infantry Platoon: Platoon Command Squad - 155 points -Standard, Medi-Pack, Vox Caster, Plasma Gun, Krak Grenades - Chimera ( ML & HF) Ditch the vox, the medi-pack is useless, Str:6 nullifies it, and they;re in a metal box anyway. Only BS3, so maybe flamers instead of the plasma. Squad 1 - 115 Points Vox, GL Chimera ( ML & HF) A pattern is emerging - voxes are bad. Especially since you're in a chimera. Even if you're not, they're a hefty points investment for something that's not that great. Also, grenade launchers are the worst special weapon you can pick up. I know they look tasty because they're a jack of all trades and cheap, but it'd be more efficient to specialise. Squad 2 - 115 Points Vox, Flamer Chimera ( ML & HF) Heavy Weapons squad - 105 Points Lascannon x3 Heavy weapons teams are poor stock. Fit these into you infantry squads if you want them. People tend to shoot these down pretty fast, and they are doubled out by Str:6 so gives Auto/assault cannons something to shoot at. Veteran Squad - 155 -melta x3 -Chimera FAST ATTACK: Vendetta 130 points I'm aware this is a beginner's list, but if you can, try to bring more than one. It won't last long on it's own. HEAVY: LRBT (Hull lascannon and hb sponsons) 185 points. A major mistake here but that comes with being new. If your LRBT fires it's main cannon, it will have to snap-fire all other weapons. You have 35pts here that all need 6s to hit. Get rid of them. Again, this is another place where bringing more than one really helps. Dealing with 1 AV14 is difficult in 1k points, but dealing with 2+ is more than twice as difficult. TOTAL - 1000 POINTS. All in all, this is a pretty solid beginner's list. Make some adjustments and you'll be well on your way. My preference is not to have lascannons on normal infantry, BS3 is unreliable, maybe swap those for autocannons since you have the vendetta for tank hunting anyway. Repost with the points you've saved after some changes and we'll see what they could be spent on! Good luck and it's great to see another new 40k player.

Griddlelol's advice is good in general, but I don't think he took your "casual" label serriously and he hasn't read the latest IG faq.

You should print a copy and keep it with your rulebook unless you have a pdf friendly phone.
Lemon Russ's are now heavy, so they can move and fire as if they did not move. I do agree about dropping the sponsons, but for a different reason. I think the points are better used elsewhere

Yeah ditch them entirely if you want the LRBT. It's a good reliable and cheap tank.

Don't worry too much about how to build the CCS. A guy with a special weapon in the CCS is easily transferred to a vet squad or an infantry squad. As far as the CC himself, I would either build him with magnetic arms for swaping, or just plain with no special wargear. 9.5 times out of 10 I run my CC with nothing special on him.
My common CCS setups are 4x Plasma... 4x Melta... LasCannon... LC and 2x Sniper... LC and 2x Plasma. Usually they will be in a chimera or with CamoCloaks behind an Aegis Defense Line. If I have a LC, I usually also have a Master of Ordnance. If I have >300 points of outflanking units, I try to add an Astropath. A Regimental standard is sometimes helpful if I have a lot invested in Infantry platoons.
HQ:
CCS - 160 points
- Reg Standard,2x plasma,vox,Krak grenades
- Chimera ( ML & HF)
Infantry Platoon:
Platoon Command Squad - 155 points I like flamers on my PCS with BS3
-Standard, Medi-Pack, Vox Caster, Plasma Gun, Krak Grenades In general, medipacks and Vox's are a waste, although I do like to put a Vox on my CCS with LC sometimes. He is always in range of himself, almost always giving orders to himself, and its only 5 points instead of 10
- Chimera ( ML & HF)
Squad 1 - 115 Points
Vox, GL
Chimera ( ML & HF) This is the best standard use Chimera setup
Squad 2 - 115 Points
Vox, Flamer
Chimera ( ML & HF)
Heavy Weapons squad - 105 Points
Lascannon x3 HWSs are not bad in casual, and can be quite good with an ADL. Be sure and have one of the 2 guys standing up for useful visibility.
Veteran Squad - 155
-melta x3
-Chimera
FAST ATTACK:
Vendetta 130 points
HEAVY:
LRBT (Hull lascannon and hb sponsons) 185 points. The LC is great for 15 if you are shooting at Vehicles more than infantry. If not, then not as much
TOTAL - 1000 POINTS.
Get an ADL. It comes with a quad gun and both are very helpful.
Try out Marbo and Harker, both are easy to proxy.
Vendettas, Manticores and Vets in Chimera are very popular, and for good reason, but IG has many paths to victory.
Good luck, and good hunting

I think right now the auto cannon Russ is the best variant. You can load it up whith 3 heavy bolters to give you just a ton of dice and the tl auto cannon can help drag down fliers. You can also move and shoot effectively, and a weapon destroyed result only has a 1 in 4 chance of killing your good gun.
For added fun, run a camo netting and put him behind an aegis, your opponents will love the 3+ cover save on a Russ!
Because of scatter and unit coherancy you will quickly find that large blasts are not the most reliable. Remember you can cram meltas and plasma on you ccs, and vet squads, and las cannon vendettas are all great choices for killing terminators and heavier tanks.
Finally, I would toss a 55 point guard squad with a flamer into your vendetta. Gives you a very mobile potential scoring unit who can do some damage with his flamer

A casual 1000 using mostly what you have now might look like
CCS in Chimera w/ 4x Melta
2x Vets with Plasma in Chimera
Vets with Plasma and LC on foot (home base/LR defendors, scoring unit)
Vets with Meltas in Vendetta
Vendetta
LRBT

It looks like a solid list. You could lose the standard and the krak grenades. Since you have the ADL you could lose a chimera on the normal infantry and give them all some auto-cannons. Those guns just drastically increase the output of guard.

Lose them both. Replace them with nothing, you're over by 50pts!
They're not useful for mech guard. If you were running full infantry the one on the CCS would be great, but with all those chimerae you're not going to need it.

Nevermind, you could even fit those two chimerae back in. Miscalculation on my part. Full mech is strong, and those HW will make a difference.

recheck your points from the last post. And decide on Plasma or Melta in CCS, it makes a difference. I would go plasma, but its subjective.
PCS can have 4 flamers

35 is an annoying amount over. The only way I can think of is ditch 1 chimera and throw another plasma on your CCS. 995, then put Krak on your PCS.
This is all just moving points around now though. You have a solid list which is what you came here for (:
Good luck using your new guard army!
