Due to another thread, I got to thinking. Does the Ward to makes you roll 3d6 and drop the highest make it easier to perils?

My math is 2/36 regular for a 5.55% or 17/216 for a 7.87%. Is my math or number count off?

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

Much easier, which is very painful now that you only get you Ghost Helm and not your invul save. It can be seen as a liability now in some cases and I'd gladly not take it with Eldrad since I typically run him with an Embolden lock.

Also, you are thinking of Runes of Witnessing, not Warding.

Yes it is easier to perils. I agree with that. However if want to take the chance to perils for almost a guarantee in casting the power. I think the risks are worth it. I can take a wound here and there to make sure I cast my power.
Also I like that fact that if someone is messing with your dice, I.E. nids making your an extra dice, it helps you negate the effects of interference. Almost mandatory on a seer without an embolden lock. just my 2 cents.

It increases the chance of perils quite significantly, but it makes it so your spells pretty much are impossible to fail.

Also, IF I happen to perils I still get to reroll from embolden, and IF I perils again, I have my 3+ ghost helm save. So the chances of taking a wound are pretty much 0% too.

I always take it when I cant afford to have my power not go off. Which is basically all the time with fortune. I could care less about perils when we have a 3+ ghosthelm.

If you perils on double 1s you can't reroll. Embolden only allows the reroll of fail leadership tests and a double 1 is a pass.

Normal odds of a perils 1/18 or 5.5555%

Odds of triple 6 or triple 1s perils with a ghost helm 1/108

Odds of a pair of 1s and with the dropped dice not being a one is 18/216 or 1/12 +1/108=20/216=5/54= 9.3%

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

yea those odds are pretty slim but i always find myself with a few 1,1,2 or 1,1,1 or 6,6,6. But then i never fail a ghost helm save haha.

Math is a little off there.

Chance of perils without RoWit is 5.56% (2/36)
Chance with RoWit is 7.87% (17/216)

How do you get 17 ?
I think its 16 with 111, 112, 121, 211, 113, ..., 116, 161, 611.

I did a matrix of all possible 216 combinations yesterday (I was bored at work), and I came out to 17 possible combinations that can cause a peril. I started this to make sure I was not mistaken in my count.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

These combos all peril:

111 112 121 211 113 131 311 114 141 411 115 151 511 116 161 611 666

Which is 17/216 or 7.9%
As opposed the usual 2/36 or 5.5%

So pretty much a 44% greater chance to perils but with the Ghost Helm you're still only taking a wound 2.6% of the time with RoWit.

Follow these two simple rules to ensure a happy Dakka experience:

Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.

Rule 2 - Games Workshop are always wrong and have been heading for bankrupcy within 5 years since the early 90s.

Sorry, but I forgot the combination 666. Evil.

Easily overlooked. I actually started counting combinations with 2 6s until I remembered I should have only been looking at the lowest of the two dice.

Thanks for pointing out.

By the way, my Farseer usually goes out without runes of witnessing, since she has a ghost helm and eventually a Warlock with embolden nearby, which allows reroll of a failed psychic test.

Re-rolling 11s/12s on 2d6 gives a 3.2% chance of perils (so about 1.1% chance of a wound from perils). So it's a great way of boosting Eldar psykers so long as you don't need Conceal (assuming can't get it from another Warlock) and in fact makes RoWit a bit counter-productive.

Conceal? Its only useful if you run a full unit of Wraithguard.

Wouldn't you want Conceal on jetbike Warlocks too for when they Flat out (though then of course you'd have Embolden too, most likely).

I've also seen it taken on Guardian rubbish by people who are running large squads (where getting them all in cover can be problematic without bunching) and also fielding an avatar.

But I agree, most often it'd be with wraithguard: I just wanted to be comprehensive and point out that if you do need Conceal then RoW would be the way to go.

Well, the Seer Council has an inv. save.
You're right about Guardians walking in the Avatar's fearlessness bubble. They would benefit from conceal.

If I run a Seer Council, I'll give it enhance (x1) and embolden (x2).
