Subject: Am I light on scoring troops?

I run an IG/GK list and have been modifying it a bit. For an upcoming tournament using standard rule book scenarios I'm curious what you guys things about my amount of scoring troops. Currently I have 5x scoring troop choices. 2x 5 man GKSS in RBs and 3x 10 man Vet IG Squads in Chimeras. Rest of the list is just a bunch of mechs; CCS, Vendettas, Griffons etc.
Do you guys think this is enough scoring guys for 1500 point games? Or do you think it's too little?

It's probably enough. My main concern would be the vets, in my experience you end up using them aggressively and they don't live long once the Chimera goes down, so they're not the most reliable scoring option. On the other hand, it's only 1500 points so you've got a pretty good chance of wiping out enough of your opponent's scoring units that you only need to hold 1-2 objectives to win.

At 1500 that should be fine. If you're really concerned, just make a bigger than normal effort to kill off your opponent's troops choices. In the end it's not who brought more, it's who has more still on the table at the end.

Ah I was thinking in a box...didnt think about the offensive part about me also taking out their scorers. Lotta firepower in my list to do that. Thanks Thing is, I could drop 2x of the 10x man Chim Vets and put in like 3-4 more scoring guys. (So +1-2 net increase in scorers) But they would all be on foot and footslogging but probably would be just chilling in the back.

It all depends on whether you want to play conservative or risky. The all-vet list can work (I run pure vets and win just fine) but you're going to have a lot of games where two of your squads are wiped out and the last two surviving models from the third claim the objective because the game ended on turn 5 before they could die (but your opponent's scoring units are ALL gone so you win 1-0). On the other hand if you take a scoring platoon you've just lost a lot of your aggressive shooting units so you have to play a more passive role and have a harder time getting firepower into midfield to clear out your opponent's objectives.

I think I'd pass on hybrid. Having a foot guard army is a struggle. Having a small foot guard allied contingency is probably going to do little more than give your opponent first blood. If you had the ability to ally GK ICs into blobs, that would be a different story, but you don't, so I'd just stick with the mechvets. They synergize better with your razor strike squads anyways.

This got me wondering about whether troops are quite as important in 6th Ed if you have lots of fast attack/ heavy support. Out of the top of my head, I think there's only 1 mission that completely relies on troops (not sure about The Relic - is it only troops that can claim that as well?). Big Guns and Scouring allow you to claim using heavy and fast, the kill point one you don't care about troops for and I can't remember what the last one is off the top of my head, I guess that might be troops based too
Anyway, I'm not saying troops aren't important, just wondered if they're less important than they were?

I like to stow two cheap scoring units like PCS and SWS squads in flamers in my Vendettas. Keep the Vends zooming until turn four or so and drop the squads out the back near objectives or go to hover and drop them precisely. Excellent way to score late game objectives and their cheap cost doesn't impact your battle plan adversely.

Heavy support- scores in 1/6 missions.
FA- scores in 1/6 missions.
Troops- scores in 6/6 missions. They are just as important as they were before. Your HS/ FA got a buff 1/6 games; that is all.
I think its just about right. It's hard to say- 1 tac squad per 500p is a good philosophy. Does 10 GK + 30 Vet's = 30 tac marines? I think it's damn close. The vet's aren't as tough, but spread out into 6 or 4.5 targets does compensate for it a bit (chimera+vets, but lets face it- chimera blows, the squad suffers hard, so they only count as half )
