I'm running an RPG that completely mangles 40k timeline and has the players playing the primarchs. I did some work on istvaan casualties to figure out each legion size roughly but I can't be sure, does anyone actually know the numbers?

Numbers are rarely given, especially Istvaan has changed alongside the changes to the Legion sizes.

You could try to guess the number of survivors of the 3 Loyal Legions but even then its pretty imprecise at best.
So no, I doubt anyone has the level of knowledge you seek.

Maybe post your work and the estimated numbers within and we can add to it.

This is what I have for numbers.

Please forgive me for not removing the player's names, I'm lazy that way.

This is at Istvaan 3 ( ie the Warmaster turning on his sons who still chose to stay loyal ) ?

The BA had in Fear to Tread more than 100k. Since signus Prime decreased their numbers, I'd guess its possible to come from ~ 120k to 100k if signus Prime happened in your timeline. If not, just add those 20k..

I am also interested where you got the numbers down to hundreds, you know a dozen more or less isn't important but with the sources I know there is nothing to get it halfway decent beneath 4 digits. Like your first two, which got a ...xxx,900 and ...xxx,500 . Or the DA, who are at .xxx,100.

The new FW HH book has numbers for the 4 featured legions up to and around Isstvaan 3.

These are to represent extra elite forces, like the deathwing for the Dark angels.

Yeah, it's istvaans three and five. Death Guard was a bit random but they had a fixation with seven, so...

I remember the world eaters taking losses of seventy thousand men and this being 'roughly half'

I actually added a couple thousand to Vulkan and Magnus because their players would be way too fethed over up against, say, the entire ultramarines legion.

What I can tell you for sure is that Corax went to Istvaan with 80,000 Marines and left with 3000. There were 1000 left back on Deliverence so post ass kicking numbers were 4000.
