I've been perusing aroud lately looking for a good ally for my IG. My primary focus is usually astetics first but then I assess their effectiveness as allies. I want to avoid SM as nothing about them really appeals to me, grey knights are pretty cool looking and their rules are good, but I really like the idea of using dark eldar as allies. I really like the look of the models and they've got some fun stuff. Here is what I was thinking:

Archon w/ghost plate, huskblade, shadowfield, soul trap
9 kabalites w/ 1 splinter cannon
Raider w/night shield, chain snares, and splinter racks
6 reavers w/3 grav talons and 3 lances

My alternative HQ was the Duke as he is about the same points and gives a nice buff to my kabalites and combat drugs for my reavers.

I was planning on running this with a mainly mech IG list with Al'Rahem outflanking. I'm wondering if this seems like a tactically viable option or if there are better ways to ally DE into an IG army?

If you are going to run Reavers, drop the grav-talons for Cluster Caltrops, they make reavers a really threat. Pinning is great and all, but many units now are fearless and/or pass pinning tests.

Not to mention lack of pinning choices isn't really guard's weakness.

I think DE could be useful. It'd let you set up a decent gun line and not have to worry about reacting fast to changes on the battle field, the DE can worry about that with their ridiculous movement. It also keeps them away from the guard so stops the problems that occur with desperate allies.

I don't think I could really advocate anything that's not battle brothers. The ability to buff your guard units with ICs is really the only way to make allies very good, as opposed to decent.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Ok, thanks. I was thinking about the caltrops but I wanted to save points and I figured the grav-talons stacked with the bladevanes if I'm not mistaken? The codex didn't really mention they replace the bladevanes like the caltrops do. Still I think I can squeeze 30pts from somewhere for the caltrops. Should I just drop the lances they have and focus on their turbo-boosting then?

You just get the bladevanes with the bonus ability of the pinning with the talons. You don't end up with double amount. That's why I think that the caltrops are better... Plus they are some stronger hits...

The codex says the grav talons are used in the same way as bladevanes, but there was no indication that says you can't use both on the turbo boost. The caltrops specifically state that the bladevanes change to deal the d6 hits, but the grav talons didn't indicate that. Did the FAQ clarify something that you can't use both?

Nevermind. Thanks for sending me the FAQ mindless.
