Am I the only one who misses the Catachan codex? I thought it was just neat that an aspect of the Guard gets a few special rules and some tweaks to match their flavor. There are sooooo many IG regiments out there, and it bugs me that for all that there's just a generic codex that all fluff aside, paints it all as foot blobinn meatshields and mechanzied divisions.... The attempt in 4th(?) to try to allow players to personalize their regiments with "traits" was a nice idea, just bungled execution with not enough options.....

My guess is that traits might come back in some form. Or possably a Command Squad option that alters your regular unit's options. Like you can purchase Jungle Fighter's for your command squad. This replaces all unit's in your army that are wearing Flak Jackets to them wearing Flak Vests(6+) but they gain Stealth and Move through Cover.

Apostrophes aren't for plurals! Seeing three egregious apostrophes in one little post is no good!

I don't see a Catachan sub-codex coming out, but Grey Templar's idea that they could come back as a trait sort of thing is reasonable. GW has taken every sub-codex out of the game now, and I don't see them going back. A separate codex just for Catachans in White Dwarf or whatever would be kind of lame too, since I don't know what they could really have that's drastically different. Unless of course we get something like Catachan dinosaur riders or something similarly off the wall, I doubt they'll be anywhere but the IG codex from here on out.

Krieg! What a hole...

Hope Forgeworld features them? Its really the only way I see them having their own mini dex.

Eh, seeing as chaos couldn't even get legions I doubt they'll be bringing back the sub-codex's, I'd love to see blood axes return in some form for orks or the Eldar Craftworlds.

Have you ever read the 4th ed. Catachan codex? There was plenty of fun material, from how they calculated LOS through woods/jungle differently than everyone else, less movement restrictions on certain terrain types, to setting up Ambushes, to name a few. Look I know the chance of a sub-codex is practically nil, but one could hope. And I think that goes for all the other armies that had sub-codexes as well....

Catachans are so great. I like IG, but cadians are so boring. I love the catachans... tough as nails, and just generally bad-arse.

I'd support this, although everything I want to do with Catachans is already in the codex!

The main problem with basing an army around them is they require a very particular type of board to play on - heavily covered in trees/foliage. It's not a table many people even consider making, because densely packed tables are seen as being expensive. While it's not correct (in fact, a good looking jungle board is very easy to make with plastic aquarium plants), you still don't see many jungle boards because of this.

They're better served by a few USR's applied to different units granted by a Command Squad (things like Outflank, Stealth, Move Through Cover, Infiltrate etc) than having their own codex.

This, basically. I really miss my Harkoni Warhawks Drop Troops, and prefer not to buy into the horrible Elysian models.

The problem with the above statement, however, is that those things were never really implimented as much as I (maybe others) hoped. I would've liked to make a Tanith First and Only army-theme, but its nigh impossible with the current Dex.

I still have my 4th Edition Catachan Codex, I love it. I'm just disenfranchised by IG now...I have too many armies, and the ones I play most, Tau and DE need the love first. I have tons of the old metal jungle fighters, and still have my 5 old-school Ogryn. Im seriously considering selling the army off on ebay or some-such but setting up the auction is such a pain in the ass, especially if I want to showcase everything and get a decent price for it.

Ugh, we're trying to REDUCE the number of armies that are split across as many codices as possible. If it would be better to condense down the number of SM ones, I dont' see why it would be a good idea to start making a whole bunch of new guard ones.

You can create any guard regiment you want, including catachan from the guard codex. That you are no longer prompted to do so does not mean that they're prohibited.

Oh no, what's up with the Elysian models? I was considering them maybe for Storm Troopers sometime in the future...

They just look really ugly too me... Too boxy.

Yes, but its not the same. A Harkoni Warhawks regiment could deep-strike their entire force en mass, not so in the current Dex. A Tanith First/ Tallarn army could infiltrate their entire force, not so in the current dex.

They lost alot of character.

You might notice all those BA DoA players crying. No army can deep strike their whole army anymore aside from Daemons, and Daemons do it in a wonky way.

The models aren't pleasing to everybody. I didn't used to like them, but I've warmed up to them.

Really? I was under the impression that FW minis were slightly smaller than GW plastics, more "correctly" scaled with things like heads, hands and weapons and the like. More akin what the older metals are like (compare a metal Steel Legion figure to a plastic Cadian, for example). Surely this makes them less boxy than both GW plastic Guard forces (don't much like the Cadian look, and while I like the Catachan legs/torsos, their arms are ugly and boxy - at least to me).
