So. Cal

Hey everyone, The Realm Games and Comics is hosting a Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader Tournament on November 3rd. The Realm is now in a bigger space in the same shopping center so there's more room for tables/players. We're trying to streamline our RTT norms so I'm going to run this one for the shop. In an effort to help EVERYONE have fun and after hearing and witnessing the many gripes about beardy armies and beardier players, I've compiled a list of house rules. We're going to try to have a shenanigan-free tourney . This post will be updated as I hammer out a couple details.

Details:
Nov. 3rd 10am. games start at 10:30. SHOW UP EARLY!
$10 buy in or $20 in product
Prizes for First, Second, Third overall, and Sportsmanship.
Army comp is in! Judged by your fellow competitors
3 Rounds, 2 hour 15 minute time limit per round.
Lunch break between first and second round
Book missions will be chosen the morning of the tournament
Mysterious Objectives and Terrain are being used

House Rules:
1500 Points, current codexes. New Chaos Space Marines is good (close enough to the usual 30 day window
Bring your rulebook and applicable codexes, 5 copies of your typed army list(one for yourself, one for each opponent, and one for the T.O), and any other gaming accessories you plan to use (dice, tape measure, etc).
No Forge World at this time, maybe future tournaments
Armies do NOT have to be painted, but HAVE to be WYSIWYG. No proxies, no half models, no empty bases, no Bull
Characters within squads have to be easily distinguishable (sergeants, wolf guards, crypteks from the royal court, etc) from the rest of the squad. Once again, WYSIWYG.
Counts-as models/armies have to be approved by the T.O. "The rule of cool" applies. (note: I love GOOD conversions)
Fortifications are allowed BUT need to be approved by the T.O. (me). PM or talk to me at The Realm

Please post to reserve your spot so we can get a head count beforehand.

Thanks!
Johnston

Hope to see some regulars here. We got new digs now with a little more room to play and not bumping into customers all the time, as the gaming tables have their own space now.

Any questions let us know.

thanks, Jon

I was there with friends last week and picked up the Chaos codex and a FoW book. Love the new space, definitely bigger than the last place. Hope you guys have a huge turnout!

I guess I like the idea of playing games much more than playing them...

Is comp a soft score or does it just determine 1st round match ups?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

So. Cal

It'll be a soft score judged by your opponent. 3-1-0

I know it's subjective but it's not a huge part of the point total.

First round matchups will be random but I'll try not to pair you up with a buddy you drove in with for the first round

Is the comp score going to be a regular thing? Or just this once?

We're trying it to see if it'll work for us. A couple of opinions voiced have been to have the T.O. judge army comp. Any suggestions from the peanut gallery?

I'll be a nut. Don't the rules GW puts out dictate what armies you are allowed to field? I get people were upset that some people were being duches. Your putting your foot down thats the first step, but pleas don't let people try to fix the game because they don't feel they have a chance to win a tournament. I havn't won a tournament at the Realm in a long while but still I play. You don't hear me crying to nuter the guy that brought the Necron air force. sheesh. (rant over)

If it's a soft score nice players will be reluctant to be harsh on grading other players comp, and their comp will mirror their sportsmanship.

My suggestion is to have players vote on it as you intended, but don't count it as a soft score. Use it for round 1 match ups, and in later rounds use it to tiebreak close battle scores for match ups. It would allow the player base to give an honest opinion on comp without costing soft score points.

Grimgob, you also have not played in a long time! You usually do pretty well when you do show up but otherwise I agree with your points =).

Comp should be judged on an objective level as possible.

Cheesiest possible army=0, borderline =, someone that brings a swooping hawks army=3?

I dunno, who is to say what is cheesy or not comp friendly? I've had people think bringing 20 WG with just Yriel is cheesy so people will often think that any army that beats them bad is cheesy =/.

Its two blocks up the street from the old location, though Garmin has not updated it. I will be in Texas playing in the Fantasy Alamo. I will try and be around for the next one, though.

The old location was in that octagon in the center of the shopping complex, the new one is in the same shopping center but along the regular stores, a few stores down from the "two-wheeler dealer" bike shop as you turn in from Randolph.

Same shopping center as the last three years, between the bead store and the bike store. The sign hasn't be installed yet but it's not hard to find at all.

If Douchbagious Ender of Hobbies rolls in with 9 Cron Fliers and a personality to match and no one docks him for it, then the players have no one to blame but themselves. While you might get screwed by a wrongful ding in a round once in a while with soft scores, in an event without soft scores (and indeed most with them) you WILL run into people who want to win at the expense of all other factors who will push things to the breaking point. You might turn away some power gamers from the events with them, but the return is a much more laid back atmosphere. Ultimately its up to the guys running an event which tradeoff they want to make.

Johnston so as to seperate the store from the tournament. John is always too busy dealing with coustomers to pay complete attention and he's such a nice guy that he never wants to alienate anyone (even when they are being asshats). Johnston knows the rules very well and dosn't put up with any crap so he got the job. In the mighty words of Anchorman Kent Brockman "I for one welcome our new insect overlords".

lolz, yes I, Johnston, am running this one. I'm not an employee of the realm, just someone who plays/hangs out there a lot and want to build the 40k events.

So anymore confirmations on who's going to show? If you don't want to post publicly, PM me.

thanks!

I work on graveyard on Friday night, but I can drag my zombie butt over for a tournament it sounds like you have a good crowd. Will probably bring my Tzeentch Deamons and allied traitor guard. I'll volunteer myself to be an early guinea pig for the subjective comp.

Due to a decision by the ownership of the venue, legal copies of the rulebook and codexes are not required. OP updated.
