We'll find out soon enough eh.

Does anyone have some scale shots of existing human units which they pegged as "30mm to the eye"? Those Fomoraic guys are giving me all kinds of ideas for Heresy-era Horus-aligned feral-world Imperial Army units, but their annoying special-snowflake bases make judging the size difficult and the Ysian character model I have is HUEG. Don't want to go in for them and find out they're as big as my artscale Marines once I have them in hand.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Some double up sadly, but the discount at the highest level is much better, so that's not an issue.

That's one way around the problem . But they'll lose the backers who can't go in heavy without a decent starter ($100 or less... not pounds) pledge level.

I haven't had much experience with Mierce before. The figures look exceptional, but <gulp> the price per figure!

My question to the Mierce veterans: are their models really worth the premium price tag?

Questions like that are hard to answer because it really is all relative, but for me, the answer is "Yes!"

The quality of the figures, from sculpting through to casting, is second to none.

Update #7

£35,000 - Brunchaath the Vile, Gabrax Tain on Gooracx
2 comments

We've reached £30,000 overnight, which is great news! Thank you everybody!

To celebrate, and to pay homage to the very first Darklands miniature we ever made, here's something awesome to aim for...

Brunchaath the Vile is a Gabrax Tain and fights for the glory of the Fomoraic and Baalor.

Brunchaath is pronounced "BRUN-kath" and Gooracx is pronounced "GOOR-az".

Increase your pledge by £28 if you've chosen a gold reward, and by £32 if you've gone for a bronze reward!

Brunchaath the Vile will ship in November 2014 along with the first "wave" of Darklands: First Edition II pledges.

Next stretch goal unveiled at £35,000...

IMO, absolutely. Best looking models I own outside of kingdom death.

The sculptors are the best in the business and the casting quality is of very high quality. While the pricetag might be high, it is not overpriced in any way in my opinion.

For me they are the best looking minis since the time of Confrontation and they surpass them. I would say that currently they are the best models out there, which lead me to think that they are the best looking models I ever had. And I have acquired something like the 70% of the minis they produced via their KS.
You simply can't go wrong with these minis

For any Mierce newbs I would recommend hitting frpgames.com sale/discount section or the war store's ebay store and buying one or two models on sale/clearance so you can experience them in person. This is what I did and now I'm hooked. If a month goes by and I don't get a new Mierce model then something feels off.

I want that mounted Brunchaath, and now I really want a third mounted gabrax to make a unit for whenever GW inevitably adds monstrous beasts to the beastmen army.

I was always wary of the price, like you.

I picked up a couple of clearance pieces here and there from the links judgedoug listed, and haven't looked back since.

RiTides is right, a lot of figures are LARGE. Then again, that may be a positive rather than a negative depending on what kinds of figures you like to collect.

Here's a few Mierce figures I got recently along with a bog standard naval soldier from the stars to give a sense of how big and chunky this stuff can be.

Oh, and I was going to be on topic for a minute. I have seen and put together some Mierce models, and I can attest that they are both very big, and very nice. Not too many mold lines, parts socket nicely together, and omg details. Personally I am not a huge fan of the resin they use, but that is so minor a detail I am almost embarrassed to mention it.

Over all, if you have money to spend on nice big models, you could do far worse than spend it on Mierce stuff, and hard pressed to spend it better.

Wow, thanks everyone. That was a pretty strong (and quick) response.

I went over to the WarStore, and they had better prices than EBay or FRPGames. Somehow almost $200 just magically got charged to my card, and I have Mierce miniatures on their way to me soon.

Now - next question. There seems to be a fair amount of ambivalence about backing the Kickstarters vs. ordering from retail. Comparing the prices I just saw at the Warstore (granted, not for the full range) - this latest KS doesn't seem to offer a lot in the way of value, especially considering shipping. Do I have the wrong impression?

Unfortunately you appear to be correct on that count. Many of us are trying to figure out how to squeeze some more value from this KS, and so far it takes some serious squeezing.

Not really....

I guess the best way to view KS2.5 is more of a pre order thing than some of the other projects we've seen.

KS1 was insane value, and unsustainable, KS2 was still good value, but quite complex, my gut says this has gone a little too far in the other direction, but I'm happy to hang in there and see how it land out with unlocks etc..

There is major value, if you have the money, in "ALL THE UNITS". With freebies attached, you're talking at least 50% off projected UK RRP. You get £800 worth of miniatures for £400.

For every £100 you spend on the KS (remember that gold prices are at 20% off projected UK RRP), we give you £10 more to spend.

You can't see the value? Seriously?

Without breaking Mierce's back, we can't give you much more!

Yeah at 100 you effectively get 110 which translates to ~140 worth of models at discount. for _Mierce_ models, remember. Everyone, look at all the models you own and which ones are of the highest quality? 9/10 it's Mierce. While I loved KS1 value I understand that the company needs to pay for new artists and new sculptors (much of KS1 was pre-existing stuff remember) and I'm quite happy spending money with a company will consistently delivers the best models in the world.

Yup, if you can squeeze a lot of cash out of your wallet it is a pretty good deal (though shipping...).
If one is patient they can get the models upon general release from the Warstore at ~25-30% off. Maybe cheaper shipping too (I haven't made a big order for a while, but generally my Warstore orders have shipped for ~5$, and almost always less than 10$).

All I am saying is that if you want to save money on paying early for models that do not yet exist and won't get to you for a few months, you will need to either front a lot of cash yourself, or put in a group order with some buddies. It isn't an obvious win for big discounts on great models unless you can spend a lot. Small pledge amounts might actually lose you a little money, depending on your local interest rates and time preference.

And they seriously are great models!

...and yet if everybody waited for (lesser) discounts, nothing would get made.

All I'm saying is that the discounts are there, now, more than the Warstore offers, and you help to get miniatures made and get the chance to purchase miniatures the Warstore will never have.

You also get to participate in a fantastic project!

Yeah wait for retail!

Except
- you won't get the free KS exclusive figures
- you won't be helping to fund new sculpts of figures
- the Warstore has not updated their Darklands releases for one year now (March 2013 - none of the KS1 new items that have been available have yet to be added)

Just wanted to confirm that "All The Units" is locked at those specific units and that no exchanges will be allowed?

Haven't trawled the comments to see if that's been answered yet, or if it's already stated somewhere on the main page that I missed.

I think it is, sadly!

I understand why, but if it wasn't, I'd totally pledge the £400!

I mean, I'd almost be there as it is, but I don't want anything from Ysians, Albainn or...er...huh.

I just might be jumping to that level...

These are mostly true. The offers you have via the Mierce KS and subsequently webstore are uncomparable but the most important is that you help these gorgeous miniatures to be created. I have to admit that supporting the effort of someone who is absolutely decent in the quality of his product, the delivery times and the communication with his customer, feels very satisfying.
As it was mentioned, you participate in the creation of something big and great.

That is certainly the main/best point of pledging now.

Plus, as previously mentioned, it isn't exactly easy to get all the latest and greatest stuff from Mierce here in the USA as it is - more often than not, going direct is the best way even once they hit retail.

So, if you're looking for another reason to 'buy now', it will be less expensive now than later on from Mierce.

Yes those units are locked in, but although I do not collect Albainn and I am not 100% convinced on the Ysain I am still in for 'all the units'. The discount is just too good to miss and I can always ebay or swap on Mierce's forum these two units for duplicates of ones I do want....hopefully. I also have seen people talk about some of the free stretch goals being re-works of miniatures from the last kickstarter, but as I did not purchase any of the originals these are all new for me and therefore even better value.

All I need to do now is somehow raise that £400 in the next 30 days or so

Just to help with the comparison, I took this:

That's a Mierce Duguth Angelcynn warrior (Anglo-Saxon warrior in effect). As you can see they are in proportion as well as being highly detailed. Though be noted that some of the characters are large! Carrowek, Eirik and Kraan especially. The background explains that they are either magically beefed up or freakishly tall, though their heads and hands are still in scale!

Believe it or not, I can't get super excited about the Slaughterers, despite my desire for more and more repitles. I'm not sure why.

I was hoping to see a Savrar unit (the smaller lizards). I've still got a month to go though, and having a (relatively) human sized unit to work with for the overly monstrous Khthon seems like an inevitable conclusion.

My dream unit would be a bunch of heavily armored 4 armed liskar champion types with nasty mauls and hammers, or a Khthonian answer to the Crawrdraigs.

Can't wait to see what kind of beast the Khthon end up with (Brythoniaid too).

The all the unit pledge really is a good deal, there's no denying the fact. My biggest hang up is units I'm not going to use. I can definitely see a great deal if you've got someone to split the costs with. Too bad I can't talk Barzam into chipping in. Then again, he'd probably just fight me for all the non- human stuff...
