Subject: Inconsistency With the Date of "The Fall?"

Heyy guys, this has been annoying me for a while so I wanted to see what Dakka thought:
The Eldar codex states that the fall happened "10,000 years before the Great Crusade" (I forget the page as I´m out of the house atm, It´s on the page with the picture of the Solitaire I believe)
However, I´ve noticed contradictions here:
"The Great Crusade was the period in the early history of the Imperium of Man, lasting from approximately 800.M30 into the first decades of the 31st Millennium (approximately a little over two standard centuries)" - Warhammer 40k wiki.
"The Fall of the Eldar is the name for the terrible catastrophe that befell the Eldar race late in the 30th Millennium and ended their domination of the Milky Way Galaxy" Warhammer 40k wiki
"The Fall of the Eldar occurred over ten thousand years ago and ended the Eldar supremacy inside of the Milky Way galaxy."´- Lexicanum
Now I have no clue as to when the Fall actually happened. This annoys me.
Anyone able to make heads or tails of this?
Iranna.

Wikis are not accurate sources of information.
One should always go direct to the actual source instead of 3rd party sites.
The Dark Eldar Codex timeline (p. 20, Dark Eldar Codex) dates the fall to circa M31.

Previously, the fall happened much earlier and actually ushered in the Age of Strife.
In newer fluff and established in the HH series, it happened just before the Great Crusade and was the event that actually led the Emperor to begin it.
Really by this point, expect to see the latter appearing in canon.

Ok, here's my interpretation of it.
"The Fall" could really be taken to mean two different things - either the actual birth of Slaanesh and the complete destruction of the empire (the common interpretation), or the start of the Eldar civilization's descent into madness (which is really the beginning of The Fall).
Based on what I know, the Age of Strife/Old Night was caused by the growing turbulence in the warp from the accumulated decadence and hedonism of the Eldar, and lasted roughly 10,000 years. The warp storms were ended by Slaanesh's birth circa M30.
So The Fall originated around M20 when the Eldar began to lose their grip on themselves and birthed monstrous warp storms, which grew for 10,000 years and ended in the event commonly known as The Fall, the birth of Slaanesh, just before the start of the Great Crusade. It was actually Slaanesh's birth and the destruction of the Eldar that cleared the warp, making it safe for human travel again.

That's true. It took many millenia for Slaneesh to gestate. The Eldar were 'falling" for a while.

The massive warp activity throughout the Age of Strife was due to the formation of Slanesh, therefore that period would correlate with what is generally meant by 'the fall of the Eldar.'

I think you want to look this one up in your codex as I don't think it's quite right.

As stated, late M30 to M31

late M30... seems to coincide.

This is stated from the point of view of the 41st millenium: so, it's still talking about late M30 to M31

The only item out of wack is the Eldar one; but I'm not certain you are quoting it correctly.

Given the nature of the Warp, its possable the Fall took place at multiple points in time simultaniously.
It happened both millions of years before the evolution of mankind, and also at the end of the Dark Age of Technology.
Maybe the Eldar Empire was stuck in a time vortex. Time within the Eldar Empire was moving at a rate slower then the outside area, and the deeper you went in the more pronounced the difference. This would put the start of the fall millions of years in the past, from the Eldar point of view. Its even possable the Eldar were able to see the time differential. Essentially allowing them to witness history pass before them.
And then the entire vortex dissappated with a bang. "Instantaniously" the Eldar Empire was annhilated in the past, present, and future.
The result was the Eye of Terror, a place where time still doesn't flow correctly.

The Fall was always around the beginning of the Great Crusade. Although back in 2nd edition, before the fluff was full yfleshed out, the link wasn't quite as clear, and there was a common assumption that the Fall was a much earlier event.

You're going crazy here. It's simple. The Age of Strife which started about M23-25 was caused by warp storms which were caused by Eldar torture orgies which ended when their empire exploded with the birth of Slaneesh in M30. That cleared the galaxy of warp storms which allowed the Emperor leave Terra and began the Age of Imperium.

I myself, am also shocked that 40k would have an Inconsistency in what it laughably calls "canon"
I would ignore the old date and go with the new stuff myself.

Again, there is no 'old' and 'new' date. The Fall has always been the trigger for end of the Warp Storms and the launch of the Great Crusade.
