I got my Forgeworld order today and was very surprised to find that my Nurgle Sorcerer and Death Guard Rhino Doors were cast with Finecast. Has anyone else seen this before?

The rest of my order was all the normal Forgeworld resin casting.

Think its just a newer/different casting technique that they use for some models. Are you assuming they were Finecast because they were in a resin sprue, rather then with big old blocks on their bases?

I only ask because this has come up before. Forgeworld, either through Facebook or customer e-mail, debunked it, and said they had no plans on using FC material.

Not saying it has changed, but last time it seemed FW was pretty adamant about using their own stuff.

Yeah, being on a sprue doesn't automatically mean it's done using the same finecast material. They exprimented with changing a few models to use a sprue tather than pour tabs, but didn't like it. They kept those models using sprues, but just didn't adapt it to the main range.

It doesn't mean it's finecast, it just means they cast it using a different method. Finecast uses a completely different type of resin.

I got a bunch of stuff from Forgeworld that was cast in the "finecast" style. They were adamant that it wasn't finecast saying they use their own resin mixes etc.

But everything was poorly cast and suffered from exactly the same flaws as finecast just not quite as bad.

In the end I sent everything back and they replaced it with properly cast stuff, with the big triangular vents.

BAsically if your not happy with it, let them know - hopefully its just old stock and they are no longer using the system.

They did indeed cast a bunch of stuff centrifugally - whether or not this mix was identical to Finecast is irrelevant, since the stuff is functionally identical and must have similar properties to have been cast using the technique.

A number of people vociferously defended Forge World right up until FW admitted that they had indeed experimented with spin-casting some models.

I have the character conversion set in not-finecast and also in "normal" resin. The finecast version is smaller, lighter, bendier, bubblier and has a rough surface texture.

The smaller was an issue for me with the not-finecast Rhino doors, as they were about an 1/8 of an inch to small all around. Greenstuff will fix that, but it should not have been an issue in the first place. The Nurgle not-finecast Sorcerer had more flash than anything I have seen over the the course of three large FW orders. I was able to clean it pretty fast though.

What pisses me off, is that I ordered FW stuff to avoid Failcast.
