Normally I wouldn't link such a liberally biased website (seeing as Dakka would tear me apart), but the website has a video. Though websites can be biased, real life can't.
So basically a Georgia State Representative banned women from getting abortions after twenty weeks, even if the women are carrying stillborns. He justifies this by comparing women to farm animals, stating that they have to give birth to stillborns too.
I imagine this thread will basically be a debate where liberals (like myself) and like, "Dis is evidence of the GOP's war on women!" and then conservatives will try to distance the guy from the GOP and be like, "Dis is just an outlier!" After eight pages it will have escalated into a debate about whether or not a fetus is a person. After eleven pages, it will have become a religious issue. Mattym will post one of his famous anti-religion rants (which I for one wholly agree with). GeneralGrog may or may not come in, which may or may not spark a debate about creationism. From there, the thread's course would be impossible to predict. The only thing I can say with certainty is that Frazzled will make comments about his rabid weiner dogs.

The political roles of the Democrats and Republicans were more or less the reverse of now, though you have to make allowance for the overall social and political changes as well.
What I mean is that the Republicans were in the 1850s a radical reforming party, while the Democrats were conservative.

He's comparing the U.S. leaders during the Civil War to Nazis. Cause the Confederacy still lives and the south will rise again or some B.S. I find it highly amusing that he goes straight from "Nazis" to "Communists!" Heck Marx wasn't even BORN yet and somehow Lincoln was a Marxist. To be fair there's been some level criticism of Lincoln for unconstitutional acts like the suspension of Habeus Corpus which President Obama actually just tried to suspend again with the NDAA last winter. Thankfully the Supreme Court wasn't sleeping on that one and has already issued a "Uh... no" on that.

At the level of State Representative that's actually true. But, conversely, I doubt at the level of State Representative there were many voters who were ignorant of his opinions.
