Maybe. I'm pretty ignorant of my state representative. Considering I've voted against him every time, thats not unexpected.

Green Party for 2012!

The Burble

There is definitely a war on women in the US. That's why

1. 1 in 15 military aged women were drafted and sent to Vietnam from 1965-1972. Nearly 59,000 would die there.

2. Research into male-related illnesses outspends corresponding research into women's illnesses despite men living on average, seven years longer in this country.

3. Men virtually always win custody of the children in a divorce battle. Men nearly always win alimony payments from women, even if the men were cheating at the time of the divorce.

4. Women, who can be drafted and sent to die for their country without their consent, enjoy far fewer legal and political considerations than men, who cannot be drafted and sent to die for their country.

5. Men are heavily favored by disparate impact and affirmative action laws in academia and the workplace. That is why nearly 70 percent of all college students (outside math and science) are male.

Am I doing it right?

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

Just wait until the first lawsuit following a woman dying of complications after giving birth to a stillborn which could have been aborted if this law were not in effect.

Having to pay out millions of dollars to her family and then trying to cope with the enormous media backlash would (or should) destroy the career of the person responsible for this idiotic law.

I imagine this thread will basically be a debate where liberals (like myself) and like, "Dis is evidence of the GOP's war on women!" and then conservatives will try to distance the guy from the GOP and be like, "Dis is just an outlier!"

I wouldn't call it an outlier as a farm kid I understand what he is saying but the easy counter is asking if he delivered all his children too ( and lets hope he's not one who says yes.) There was certainly a time when your doctor was just as likely to also be your vet, but I'd like to think Mr.England is too young to remember those times. I didn't hear him compare women to farm animals I heard him try to relate his life experience to an issue and I understand that. If you don't *shrug* I couldn't care less. I certainly want better medical care for my wife than my livestock.

A lot of right wingers have said a lot of really stupid things concerning this issue, but this one is just... magical.

Yes, it's stupid to be a farmer. SO stupid. I'm sure you think that the way your food shows up is magical too.

Not only was Marx alive he wrote Lincoln a letter, and signed it. Lincoln wasn't a Marxist he said something along the lines of "Property is the fruit of labor and property is good" I am paraphrasing from memory of course. But Lincoln also made some pretty Marxy statements that Harry Turtledove used to make his alternate history Lincoln a Marxist, so the potential was there but labeling him either way is a mistake.
FYI Marx was about 10 years younger than Lincoln.

Huh, well waddya know, learn something new everyday I suppose. I thought Marx was significantly closer to the 20th century instead of the middle of the 19th. I don't know WHY I thought that but I did.

Lenin maybe? Or the rise of the Soviet Union? Understandable.

Possible, maybe I figured Marx was chronologically closer to the major world events he helped inspire.

In large part he was, but you are a little backwards.Marx was close to the events that influenced him. If you were to study the French Revolution you'll find an awful lot of historical study came (and still comes) from Marxist historians in the USSR and China. That's really the spritual heart of communism. That's my take.

Plus the first Russian Revolution was attempted in 1905.

Somewhere in south-central England.

There were widespread riots and revolutions in Europe in 1848.

One result was a wave of immigration to the New World.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Meh, the 1848 revolutions (and especially the Third Revolution) are just 1783 redux without the interesting characters. Of course Marx and Engels had a merry old time, but it's just not as interesting or pivotal. If you have not you MUST read Carlyle's French Revolution, if for no other reason than the ringing endorsement of one Samuel Clemens. (and me) Were all scholarly histores written like that a lot more students would enjoy history.

Some old guy who wrote books about Tom Sawyer wrote:When I finished Carlyle's French Revolution in 1871, I was a Girondin; every time I have read it since, I have read it differently – being influenced and changed, little by little, by life and environment ... and now I lay the book down once more, and recognize that I am a Sansculotte! – And not a pale, characterless Sansculotte, but a Marat.

I have Carlyle's French Revolution in my library, but I have never got round to it.

It is a period I have always thought I ought to read more about.
