So I've decided after a 8 month break that I would like to get back in to warmahordes, but i can not figure out what faction to choose. I currently have khador and cygnar battle boxes, but was thinking maybe something different. I would like a club up side the head style of play with models who can stand up to some hits. low model count would also be nice. what finally made you guys decide on your faction?

Request
1. Club up side of the head
2. Low model count
3. Stand up to some hits.

Answer
1. Khador
2. Troll Bloods.

Why? Both factions are very heavy hitting.

For Khador,
Jacks hit like trucks. Multiple casters have the ability to increase the odds of hitting, so hitting is rarely an issue. The Jacks have some of the highests base PS attacks, have chain attacks, and are pretty straight forward models. You do not have to go with the "WG death star" or Kay Assassins approach. pButcher, Karchev, Vlad can all be jacks and MoW heavy and do fantastic. Irusk can run MoW heavy like a champ.

For Trolls:
Champions offer low model count, survivability, and multiple weapon master attacks. In combat, with the faction buffs they can have high arm and def. Many warlocks run them well. Their warbeasts are fun, deadily, and really look sharp when painted on the table top. The Mauler is just fantastic, and looks the part. The entire army has "tough" IE another change to get up. Even Fennblades the single wound infantry, are a medium base

Just look at the Collosals, you can get a very low model count with one of those if you choose

I recently did a big thread on choosing your warmachine and hordes factions on a different site.
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/hordes-general-discussion/forum/topic/chosing-your-faction-in-hordes-and-warmachine/
I would have copy and pasted it, but it's a huuuge post. I wouldn't want to proliferate the walls of text. I think you might like Skorne or protectorate from the sound of your post, but there are a lot of factors involved.

Trolls are THE faction if you want durability. As stated earlier, everything save Whelps and warbeasts have Tough, so unlike everyone else, when a trollkin takes even a point of damage on single wound models they still have a 33.3% (1/3) at life. Troll warbeasts have a good number of defensive animi, so you can take advantage of those to increase survivablility. A number of support units and solos offer defensive aid. Trolls can also be tuned to hit like an 18-wheeler truck if you wish to go that route.

thats all of them. every faction can be built to be low model count, or offensive/damage output, or attrition. you need to be a bit more specific. What are you looking for? alpha striking? attrition? melee? ranged? light infantry, or heavy infantry? infantry or beasts/jacks? spell slinging/back field support/ assassination. Or is there a warlock, or a caster who you like the look/fluff of? thats a better place to start if you ask me.

As for me, i play circle and khador. WHat drew me to khador. "there is no such thing as excessive force", and "bigger and better mean the same thing in khador". Plus, Doom Reavers and assault kommandos sold me on the look of them. great characters in the form of Strakhov, the Butcher of Khardov, and Irusk in particular. the more fluff i read the more it reaffirmed my loyalty to the empress, and my desire to drive my army south, and crush all opposition to the glorious motherland.

WHat drew me to circle? simple. Tharn. Savage barbarian beastmen. sold. Oh, and Wolves. Giant facesmashing wolves. that was it. very interesting playstyle that allows for smashing face (the notion that circe are pillow fisted is a bare faced lie), guerilla style hit and run actions, and terrain and movement manipulation shenanigans. Plus, since i had a warmachine faction, it was a good idea to have a faction representing the other side of the coin.

and here's me tempted by a Borka themed Champion trollbloods army! sob!

epic irusk, prime irusk and terminus would like to have words with you. trolls are durable thanks to tough, for sure, but they pay the "tough tax" in the form of quite low DEF across the board, as well as lowish speed. trolls are a great faction but there are other viable paths to durability, whether its the obnoxious DEF19 of khador's iron fleshed kayazy, toughed winter guard courtesy of Joe, extremely high armour/hit points of heavy infantry. etc. trolls are good though!

I'd say slow and steady wins the race, but I think Khador would agree as well as Trolls. Trolls and Khador a good bit similar, so it kinda comes down to visual appeal. Pick what looks good to you. To me, Trolls look good, for I hate the warjack models. The heads are a real bother to me.

I will testify to the annoying durability of Trolls. krell warriors are a to put down. And their warbeasts are insanely durable, although I did manage to kill the Mountain King(3 bastions into the rear will do that )

So weird, you killed it, and I learned how bad it can be if you fail to kill it through plinking away. Last night I was playing with the King, got down to about 5 health, and lived. He ate something like 8 Whelps and was good to go. I haven't used Kriel Warriors, but Champions are dang tough. I've had a squad of 5 turn a heavy jack to scrap, or at least make it redundant. Anytime you got something with tough, there's always a chance it will still live to annoy the crap out of you. Trolls do that really well.

Especially assassination runs. >.< Can't even begin to tell you how many times I've tried to kill their casters, get down to my last pair of options to finish the bugger off and watch them hit 5+ both times.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

When I started I had it narrowed down to Khador and Cygnar. I really thought my brother was going to go Khador (he told me he was planning on buying the starter box) so i went with Cygnar. Found out my brother changed his mind at the last minute.

I got into Cryx when I got a free starter box at Adepticon in my swag bag. Really liked their speed and tricks.

Got back into my Cygnar when the Stormwall was released and now I kind of bounce back and forth.

Oh, picked up a 35 point Menoth list when I got the two player battlebox (I wanted the small rulebook). I expanded it to 35 points to play around with it and to paint it up and maybe sell it or something. Only played them twice, though.

The khador got assembled, prime and stuck on a shelf.

After all this my brother just decided he wanted to switch to Khador about a month ago and bought some jacks and Harkevich.
