I was wondering what Sept the Tau are in this picture. I can't found out anywhere. Many thanks!

I am wanting to think that this is the Tau'n Sept, but their bodysuits are red in the picture whereas every other time I've seen a Tau'n sept Firewarrior the bodysuits are black.

I do know that while a Sept may have a primary color scheme, they are not space marines and as such aren't restricted to using the same colors each and every time, or even having different armor/bodysuits in varieties of camouflage.

Unfortunately, I only have the 3rd ed Tau codex as I recently sold all my unassembled tau and newer codex to a buddy. He is coming by tonight for a game, so I'll check his codex while he's here and get back with you if I find anything in there.

I suspect it its vior'la.
The red dags on the side of the helmet. The dags are set colours dependent on sept, while the armour is variable.
Red is vior'las colour.

Well, it depicts Commander Brightswords attack on Nimbosa. Haven't found out his Sept yet. Maybe Vior'la with some artist's freedom on cloth colour: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Vior%27la .

The real question is what Tau commander failed so hard as to have his troops in all-out melee like that....

The one trained by Mad-Dog Farsight, and the one sacked immediately after this.

I would say Vior'la also, as their sept colour is red and their armour is typically white/bone colours.

This actually comes from the cities of death book, these Tau were led to battle on the planet Nimbosa by Shas'o Tash'var Ol'nan B'kak (Commander Brightsword) who was a student of Commander Farsight. So it'd make sense if he was Vior'la as Farsight was from this sept. Also in the cities of death book the tau are listed as fighting Vostroyan Firstborn IX. Which matches up to your picture.

Commander Brightsword was the commander of the outpost Es'Tau. Hopefully this should help you out.

No problem, I just knew I'd seen that picture before somewhere

Also it's a pretty awesome scheme, are you planning to use it for a Tau army?

Unlike other armies in 40K Tau are more "sensible" in that they change their equipment to reflect whatever environment they are fighting in, though whatever environment is reflected by red and white I have no idea. It could be any sept.

Hey,

Yeah I am once I find a good airbrush kit. I don't play tabletop, at least not for many years when I was younger. But painting is always fun and this tau scheme is pretty unique. At least not many people have painted this exact style.

So hopefully will have some done soon.

Vior'la, they have the red sept color and are being led by Brightsword (Vior'la Commander) also, Tau armor comes in many different colors because of the fact that they fight in different places and use different "camo" colors.

I would say vior'la as they have red sept markings. the white armour and under suit is probably just a variant of the colours for camo or some other reason. I've seen a simular colour scheme on a riptide in the Escalation white dwarf (monthly) and it was also from the vior'la sept.
hope this helps!

Vior'la, Red is their sept colour, which doesn't change, and the rest is their standard armour colour.

Some people suggested Tau'n and although their standard armour colour is also white they have yellow sept colours the same colour as standard T'au armour.
