Anyone else find themselves addicted to buying models off of ebay and telling yourself its okay as you got them cheaper than in store so buy more?

Not an addiction, it's a lifestyle choice. Also, shutupshutupshutup.

Its ridiculous, i collected 10 years ago when my pocket money evaporated within seconds of walking in to a games workshop but stopped. Ive started collecting again as of today really after buying the necron codex and since then ive been sitting on ebay bidding and buying.

So far ive brought

40 warriors
10 immortals
3 destroyers
1 destroyer lord
1 necron lord

May need some paints and a few years to paint this little lot, i guess its a strong start to my army :L

I can never find any deals worth a damn on ebay anymore. Craigslist or the swap shop is all I know these days.

Honestly I can get stuff for cheaper from miniature market (25% off of GW and free shipping on orders over $100) for new stuff. I can't find anything better than that on ebay; usually get outbid because for some reason people are willing to pay more for on ebay than they would if they just ordered from other retailers.

It's kinda weird. For ebay, I look for AT LEAST 30%-40% off. If I can't find it there I come to the swap shop (and still look for similar....though I'll pay more for well painted models that look like they had a lot of time put into them).

TL,DR

Online Retailers/Swap Shop are cheaper than ebay

I'm sure ebay does have a sell option - not that I've ever found it myself

Ebay is great, we all fall into it's trap. Last summer I was looking for a unit of Mangil's Manflayers for fantasy and the next thing I knew I bought 10K worth of 5th ed metal Dark Elves. I think for the past 4 years Ebay is accounts for 98% of my purchases.

I always have about 15 search filters that spams me everyday and usually have 1 to 3 packages coming in at the office every week. I collected 5000pts of orks in about 2 months and now decided to go back to the power armor and am converting my ultra marines to blood angels and currently actively caning eBay for blood angles related minis.

Right now I am looking for a pair of Vindicator but they always leave eBay a bit higher priced than what I would pay! So I bid my time

The side effect of all this is the amount of things I have to paint (I am currently starting to think that air brushing would be a good investment!)

* I have to say that NewGW impresses me a lot...

I just got a Demolisher kit and 15 ratlings, combined, for cheaper then either of those would cost individually at GW. I think I saved about 70% if you put them together.

If you're willing to do a little work, you can get some amazing deals on eBay and make some great stuff out of them. Not long after I first started into 40k I went on an eBay-a-thon and, well, it hasn't really stopped since!

I get the ebay disease now and then. Bargains are always nice - and they can always be resold for a profit! That said, I'm using ebay less now. I used ebay to get some cheap models to practice painting on, now it's just bargains and odds and ends that I need... or look shiny ; )

Yep too many great deals to just walk by. I love it, I don't have trouble with screwing the paintjob on used mini that much, the prices seem acceptable and there are some great out of production models on auctions. It's madness.

I won an auction that had 9 Broadsides, 15 crisis suits, 50 fire warriors, an 50 gun drones for like 325 bucks. It was a steal .

I purchase exclusively from ebay as of this year and have probably spent around 500 bucks this year on various things...I run a deathwatc rp and I like to use models to represent things in game...lately though I've just been trolling for warhound titans...I missed out on a great deal a few days ago and am kicking myself for it, oh well.

eBay (at least for me) has been kind of hit or miss over the years. I found a fantastic deal on some Orks (basically spent around $70 for what amounted to a small Ork army) one month, but then when I decided to add on a Blood Angels detachment to my Wolves, I could not find a single deal on Assault Marines. I found one single deal on a NIB Sanguinary Guard kit, and it wound up being only about 25% off GW price. Usually I wind up finding auctions that fall into three categories:

1. NIB models that seem to be a great deal, but the shipping price is exorbitant.
2. Fully painted/assembled models that are only marginally less expensive than the shop price.
3. Pro painted models that run a couple hundred bucks.

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place, but I wound up buying all but two units from my Blood Angels detachment from my FLGS at GW price, just because I couldn't find anything decent on eBay.

Purchasing from eBay can save you a ton of money, especially with the bigger army deals. It's uncommon to see a single model or kit in decent shape go for much more than 20% off, but army lots can go for 50% off or more.

Very true from what ive seen, although i must say ive got 4 lots of necron warriors at between £5 and £7.50 a set when gw sells them at £22 i think

You have to be smart though. I've seen people bid on models that were still available and buy them for way more than they're worth. I saw folks buying Colonel Chenkov for $30+ when the actual model sells for $15 from GW. This wasn't just an entirely too high Buy it Now, this was a bidding war.
