On moon miranda.

Given that the latest Codex: Chaos Space Marines didn't fill this niche and neither has Forgeworld, and so many people still have awesome conversions or the beautiful Forgeworld model for Sonic Dreads, I figured putting together a simple upgrade framework may be in order. I patterned this somewhat off the Decimator rules.

"Any Helbrute may be designated as a Sonic Dreadnought for +15pts. It gains both Offensive and Defensive Grenades and a Dirge Caster, swaps its Multi-Melta for a Twin Linked Sonic Blaster, and may take the following options"

May swap Twin Linked Sonic Blaster for a Blastmaster for 20pts.
May swap Powerfist for a Twin Linked Sonic Blaster for Free or a Blastmaster for 10pts.

May take a Doom Siren for 15pts.

With regards to these costs, I mostly lifted the Mark of Slaanesh rules for the Decimator here but added the Dirge Caster as well since it fit and the Helbrute/Dread is a much less capable vehicle than the Decimator so the upgrade needed a bit more oomph. I figured that since Noise Marines get a Blastmaster for 30pts, taking into account the value of a TL Sonic Blaster over a boltgun, 20pts seemed a fair trade. Likewise, an S10 AP2 powerfist with 2 attacks is worth a lot, and thus the upgrade costs are cheaper as the dreadnought loses a lot of value in trading that weapon in. The Doom Siren cost I figured was justified being lifted as-is from the Noise Marine entry.

Thoughts?

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I was quite upset that they didn't put god marks and upgrades inthe codex.

Since Forgeworld have started doign this i was hopefull it woudl carry over. Oh well.

These rules look pretty good. I'd be happy to play against it.

FW has rules for sonic dreads. They're in IA Apocalypse, second edition.

Yeah I forgot completely about that, however given that they're now somewhat out of date, an update isn't too far out of order

Cant see it in there.

They are mentioned in IA:A as part fo a formation though.
It probably evens out as the one in the book is more expensive to buy but cheaper to upgrade the weapons.

Oh, okay, that one. Whichever it is that has the rules for the formation also states that you can take them in normal games, outside of the formation.
