So, I decided a while ago, to make a master of the forge based space marine army, which means, lot's of dreadnought's, particularly, rifleman dreads (2 Autocannons)

I bought 5 dreadnoughts, which cost a fortune as is, but hey, I was excited to make this army finally.

Then I discover, that they don't come with autocannons.

Then I discover, despite them being a weapon option, they don't even -make- autocannons for dreads.

And the only solution, is to spend £8.00 -per weapon-, to make the dread's work, by buying forgeworld guns.

That means, It will cost 28+16=44 quid -per dreadnought-, if I want to run it like this.

Yes, games workshop, I like your game. But 8 quid for one tiny plastic weapon, is just ridiculous.

Can anyone help me in this situation? Im not amazing at making things from scratch, but I could try something simple, if there is a solution. Or else, is there another kind of shooting dread, that isn't too expencive points wise, and still works well?

Have a look on eBay. You can often find people selling the autocannon arms pretty cheaply. Keep an eye out for sellers from Russia.

Styrene sheets, styrene tubing, a knife and glue can be used to make some the arms fairly easily. I know there are a couple of step by step guides but my search fu is weak today.

If you prefer premade: http://emperorscodex.blogspot.com/2011/11/flak-cannonauto-cannon-dread-arms.html

Or using some IG parts if you have them laying around: http://gonetoground2.blogspot.com/2010/10/diy-twin-linked-autocannon-arms-for.html

With a little converting, would IG heavy weapon AC's work? Those should be pretty plentiful and cheap

Snoggums, that will be better than forgeworld for me, so thank you very much

I was originally going the IG autocannon way, but I will be going for the tubing for a beefier look. If I was further along, I'd post some pics.

Aegis Defence line will also give you 2 twin-linked autocannons that you can convert easily into dread armament.

Problem is that it isn't really any cheaper option than FW arms, unless you have some use for Aegis Defence line, excluding the Quad guns.

Snoggums of course has far cheaper option for slighlty more work.

I can highly recommend the puppetwars autocannons

They even got some new ones (sligthly more "fancy")

Take the lascannon arm and swap the gun barrels for some tubing. Or use Aegis Defense Line autocannons.

Besides, everyone can use ADLs amiright

The basic dreadnought kit came out before that was a general option. The Aegis Defense Line comes with a pair of TLACs though, and those go on easy:

I will say though, you should do your research before buying 5 Dreadnoughts. You can just Google "Dreadnought sprues" and come up with some results, or ask around at sites like this one if the kit comes with them.

ADL autocannon dreadnoughts are the coolest looking autocannons, and require the least amount of conversion. You really just stick the 2 gun halves on. No cutting or anything.

Do they fit on the dread's arm posts? Right now I just swap dread arms around, no magnets, just a snug dry-fit. Would the ADL arms require more work then just painting them up and sticking them on? Looking at the sprue picts on GW it looks like the post/hole set up is opposite from the dread kit, but it's hard to tell.

I glued mine on, but you could easily do some drilling into the Autocannons to make a hole for the peg to snugly fit in.

Yah I drilled out the posts on the auto cannons from th aegis and put magnets in. Then I cut off the posts on the dreadnought hull and magnetized that. Now I can switch between autocannons, multi melta/CCW, assault cannon/ccw, and dual CCW ironclad. And I can still use it as an aegis line or hydra tank too(though I don't play guard). Magnets are spectacular!

I also took and converted the twin linked lascannons from another dread, and the tllc from predators turrets and made them into auto cannons.

Use the lascaanon arm for one and the lascannon barrels attached to the missile launcher arm for the other.

Or plasticard tubing, or ig or 3rd party heavy weapons. You have an arm for each side, you just need to attach something to one or both of them.

Yeah, guard ones work, but as mentioned, this is a pretty easy scratchbuild, even for someone who isn't great with plasticard. All you need to do is make a box, and put some tube chunks of various diameter on it in the proper place. Slap on some rivets or purity seals, and you're done.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Pretty easy to correct, I'd do the ADL quad gun bit route too. It could be worse, you could have a codex with several units missing models and half the models missing lots of their options as well. If this sort of thing annoys you, count yourself lucky to play SM.

I haven't been able to find just the Quad Gun from the ADL so I'm looking at picking this up for my Rifleman Dreadnought conversion. I want remove the arms from my AOBR Dreadnought, really don't wanna cut them up, leave them as is. Were you able to just put the flak cannon bits directly on each shoulder of the Dreadnought?
